Default Crazy morning! With success

Alright, so my huntin' buddy scored this morning on a lil' 8 pt. I haven't seen it yet, but it's on it's way to my garage right now.

I was sittin' in my stand around 8 and he texted me and told me he just shot at a buck. I asked if he hit, he said he wasn't sure. I told him to stay in his stand until 9, it needed time anyway, and see what else came by him. 10 minutes later, another buck comes by... 10 minutes later, another one... and a brut at that. Good sign!

So... I text my husband who is my hunting buddy's best friend and told him, he called him and had him get down and check for blood/arrow. He found his arrow, covered in blood and some blood on the corn stalks below. When my buddy got to my stand, I inspected the arrow, lots of blood, but not too frothy. I smelled the arrow and there was a little bit of odor, not too terribly bad, but still there. So, after talking to my husband on the phone to double check that I knew what I was doing, lol, we headed to the truck for the cart and over to where he shot. There was blood, but I couldn't find anymore after that. Of course, the corn stalks were red, and the fallen red leaves were wet, making it hard. I told my husband to pack up my son and come help track because I wasn't finding blood anywhere within 50 yards.

As soon as I hung up the phone with him, my daughter's school calls, she is sick at school with diarrhea and a low grade fever... called hubby back and told him to stop and pick her up on the way through, that I would meet him halfway home and he could pick up the tracking.

I was pretty sure he had gutshot the deer because I found some pieces of chewed up grass in the blood and it smelled AWFUL. I told my husband what I found and he picked it up from there. I had a call an hour later, they found him!!! YAY!! A little 8 point. I haven't seen him yet, I can't wait for the deer's arrival. They took some pics with the digital so I will post them up or have my buddy do it, he just recently registered here, so he will probably get on and tell his side of the story.

I am so excited for him, it's not only his first bowkill, but his first deer ever! Double the fun! On the flip side, I didn't see any this morning from my stand, but as we were walking out to his stand to track, we got stared down by a young 5-7 pt (undetermined), then the most depressing part of the story... lol... as we got up to my other stand, there was a monster 10 standing right under it with a doe. He saw us at 40 yards and took off across the field... man he was a monster!!! He had some bright white headgear with some seriously heavy mass to them. I can't believe he was standing RIGHT under my other stand.... if only I would've sat there this morning. I actually would've had a shot at 3 different bucks from what my buddy says (his stand is not even 50 yards from mine).

Well, maybe next time, today I am just celebrating that my buddy got his first deer! So... nobuckchuck... where are you? Post up your pics and your side of the story!

Just a reminder post, since it relates to my buddy's success story... DON'T track right away if a deer runs off! We waited 3 hours to track the guy and he didn't even go 100yds. He was a perfect... gutshot. lol Seriously, he got him right in the guts, actually blew his intestine out the exit hole, which is why I couldn't find a blood trail after the initial impact area.

We all make bad shots from time to time, but even most gutshot deer will lay down and expire. This goes to prove the point that you shouldn't push them during tracking. Give them time to lay down, go get some breakfast or dinner or something and come back if time can afford it!

I nearly sliced a buck's heart in half last year, and the thing ran over a ½ mile. Some are just harder to bring down than others.
