Default Dehydrator Help

I want to get adehydrator to make venison jerky with. Help me, what should I be looking for. Fan speed, # of trays, brand, seasoning, store to buy from? I don't want to spend too much $$$. Any advice?

I just bought the cheapest one they had at WalMart and it has worked well for me. I think it has 4 or 5 trays. You don't need to spend a bunch of money on it.

I did the same as mez (better yet, I got it as a gift!) It's been working fine for me for 6 or 8 years or so now. With 5 trays I can do about 4 pounds of meat (before dehydrating) at a time.

I believe it is a "magic chef" and cost about $30 at the time.

A full load of fully loaded trays takes between 12 and 14 hours to dehydrate.

I do highly recomend the Cures, jerky board, knife and jerky shooter kits from Hi Mountain:

Wow, I have the same magic chef $30 unit and I load my trays completely full and it is usually done in 6-7 hours.

I have the Nesco/American Harvester Snackmaster Express (Model FD-60). It was about $40. It's rated at 500 watts, has four trays and is expandable to eight trays. It takes me five hours to dry 3 lbs. of ground meat.
