Eh, fooey! I could have said Downy since I knew the hole was too small for a Pileated... I call "fowl"... Get it, talking about birds... fowl... foul... uh, never mind.

No........I'm going to send you the stupid woodpecker so you can take care of him all winter. Maybe next spring a Bluebird will take over and I'll be a bonafide birdwatching dork.
I guess my recurve shooting is on hold anyway.

I watched that littleSOB out there crawling around, pecking a little here and there and thought..."Well that's pretty neat, a woodpecker keeps landing on my 3D target" (I'm a slow learner )

Big John,
Actually I just had some Rogies 2 days ago........smothered in butter and onions then pan fried. With a side of Antelope steak. Whoa nelly.[:-]

The moral of the story and what I want to know is, at what point does a woodpecker decide a deer has stood around long enough that he's going to try and make a home in it's neck?

Anything I can do to help a fellow dork.

(Hey there really is such a thing as a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker!)

He he... Oh yeah, I know all about that little sucker... Would you believe it's one of the only birds I was never able to kill with my BB gun? It became the "holy grail" of birds I was after during my very early teenage years.

I had to go back thru and search for this post to find the answer. I have tons of downy's that come to my feeders and stuff. I'm glad you helped me solve my mystery too.
