Hi guys! I'm relatively new to the forums, and have been reading it for a while. I'm a new person to archery, and I won't be going hunting for a long while, just tuning up my skills and getting the arrows where I want them to go... Any suggestions for a beginner? And is the NOVA SU a good bow for a beginner? Getting a full package for $475!

Glad to meet you,
When I first started shooting my groups were off the bale of hay. LOL
Here is what brought my groups in....
1. Took bow to a pro shop and had the proper rest, peep sight and string loop put on...total price 20.00
2. Switched from aluminum to carbon. Expensive at first but Carbons have lasted me for ever. 5.98 a piece at Walmart.Terminator 6075
3, use a tru fire quick release 20.00
Now it shoots real good.

Hi and welcome to the best hunting site on the web , you picked the right place to get all the information your looking for.
When shighting in your bow just remember to follow your arrow , what I mean by that is if your arrow hit low and to the left then move your shight the same way.
When holding your bow stright out in fornt of you , everything should be lined up
Have an arrow nocked in your bow and hold it out in front of you , look at your string , arrow and shights they all should be right in line of each other.

Welcome
If I were you, I would just go to a shop somewhere--shoot some different bows--they will have several in your price range--they will let you shoot them and set you all up. Cabelas and Gander Mt are a couple of pretty good places--or try your local smaller shop as well. I bought all new this year and I got a real nice package for about 575. Get your self a good case too so nothing gets wrecked when you put it in the back of your vehicle.
I know Fred bear has a good entry level bow that is new this year-- a buddy of mine just got it and it shoots real nice--it is called the Element. I thin they are 300 or so-with a package you can be set up for 425 plus arrows, release and case--500 to 525 would be a close guess with everything you need. -Get some decent Camo too!!
Good luck--things are heating up, so you better get it this weekend and start shooting!!
Good luck

Thanks guys. I'm really a total noob, so much appreciated for any help. Currently I am getting Carbon bows in the package that I'm looking at. Thanks for the information. Hopefully if I buy off the site, everything *should* be calibrated =).
I was planning on getting http://www.huntersfriend.com/2006-PS...ow-Package.htm
Basically. I'll be training for a few years on how to accurately shoot then if I do decide to start out hunting, I need to turn 18 first.. then find out laws and such in the California Area. =)
Anyone knows a store in the Bay Area of Cali that would sell that Bow? Thanks.

Welcome to the site. I've got that bow. It's a good bow to start on. I've added a drop away rest and a tru glo sight. I'm actually getting ready to put mine on ebay. I'm buying a new Fred Bear Instinct. If you want just the bow itself I would sell it for $125. If you want the rest, sight, stabilizer, sling, $200. This would get you started for $200 minus the arrows. Anyways, let me know if you have any questions or want some pics. Welcome to a great site!
