I'd feel quilty as well. I savemost my vacation for the hunting season. We also have like 4 days of short notice which is actually our sick days and can be broken into two hour segments. Basically avoid being sick or work sick to save these days for hunting.

Yes..we have a new boss this year who is as mean as a snake. As a Christian I am straight forward. He ask me in July if I would work for him after school tutoring kids. I said ,"Yes, if you give me hunting days off when I want them." He said ok. I'm taking 7 days off to go to Missouri in Nov. and I took a bow hunting day off last week. We can take 9 personels off per year. I have 45 days saved up.

I get most days off that I want in deer season. My bosses are both hunters and about half the shop hunts. Most of the guys are fist day hunters, so its a ghost town at work on opening day. I never call in sick, I always just say I won't be in today. That way I'm not lying about anything.

Yep, I am honest with them and they still hate it. But I am in the top 3% overall in the company in terms of performance out of 400+ others that are in the same position so they can deal with it or I will go make $$$ elsewhere. [8D] I am in sales, so it prevents me from taking time off at certain times, as I need to hit a quota every month. If I plan extended vacations ( more than just a 3 day weekend) I plan it for the beginning of the month unless I get way ahead of where I need to be in sales for the month then I take more days off. I often earn paid hunting days off as part of performance contests/bonuses.

I am. I teach school. So I get 2 weeks at X-Mas. 4 days for Thanksgiving. 4 for a Fall Break and 3 Months off in the summer. We get 15 PDO's a year on top of that. Paid Days Off. The school year is 180 days. Last year I worked like 162 days. ITs nice.

I can relate.... I'm in I.T. (I mean, I.T. - as in I am "IT" - a one man I.T. Dept at my company). Pffffft - getting time off is always apain and you have to jump through hoops to get it.[:'(]
The worse aspect is that I am the only guy in the Admin/HR dept (yeah, they lumped I.T. in with the main Admin dept.
Go figure...) So, my main Dept manager is the HR lady, who always goes by the book no matter what. [&:]
I took the whole week of Thanksgiving off and the first part of the week after for rifle season. You'd think I committed a heinous crime for asking for that time off! [:@] All the ladies in admin think I am crazy for spending time in a deer camp and wanting to go out and kill beautiful animals (no, they are not PETA freaks, but they don't care for hunting).
I mean, I'm 45 years old.... Istill got a long ways togo before retirement.
God, please let me hit the lottery, so I won't have to put up with corporate B.S. anymore!!!!!!!!!!

My boss and I are really good friends. In fact I just stood up in his wedding in August. He knows I take my vacation depending on weather and that I may even call in the morning and take vacation just as I did on Wednesday.

I work for a small business (about twenty people spread across two offices). My manager here hunts, so he is cool. And the company owner in the other office got a hind quarter off the only deer that I have killed, so he is cool with it too.
