Morning Hunts VS. Evening Hunts
How is everyone doing on their early season morning hunts and you seeing very much deer activity compared to your evening hunts. I was wondering if should head out in the morning or will I just be spooking everything and making my evening hunts more difficult.

Being how the season opens here in VA Saturday I plan on being in my tree stand before daylight. I havn't hunted since last year for deer so I have a high level of dedication right now. After a few days of not seeing anything it will all change though. I don't consider anytime to be a waste of time because you have to be out there to shoot one. Given a choice though, I prefer evening hunts.

I prefer evenings as well, but that is certainly not to say that mornings are not very good times to hunt. As far as spooking the deer and making your evening hunts more difficult....maybe, maybe not. It all depends on the location, how you get in and out and most improtantly how the deer use it. You certainly don't want to walk through or even very close to their food supply while getting to your morning stand...just as you don't want to walk through their bedding area getting to your evening stand. If the stand is being used for both morning and evening...it all depends on how you get to it. You may have to go the long way around to avoid spooking them.

Hunting in the morning is much more enjoyable to me. I'd rather watch the sun come up than go down. I'ts also nicer to hit one in the morning as far as tracking, field dressing and even taking the deer to be processed. Most people do most of their scouting in the evening so their stand placement is usually suited for evening hunts. I very rarely hunt the same spots in evening that I do in the morning. In the morning I tend to get a little closer to the bedding areas, and in the evening I stay closer to the food sources.I also noticed that generally ,when hunting from a tree ,that the breeze is updrafting in the morning and downdrafting in the evening.

I just don't have a good morning stand location. I wish I did.
That doesn't mean I don't HUNT the mornings....lol. Ya never know.....and I LOVE being out there in the wee hours. I LOVE to watch the woods come alive......and the Lord and I have had a few conversations while this is occurring.
