homemade scent killer smell?
Hey guys, i made a batch of homemade scent killer they had in field and stream mag. It used peroxide, distilled water, baking soda, and scent free shampoo. How is the stuff supposed to smell? anything like the stuff in the store? I cant really describe the smell but its nothing like store bought. I followed directions exactly. Could you guys describe please how the homemade stuff is supposed to smell? i dont want to find out the hard way! thanks

RE: homemade scent killer smell?
How long after you mixed it up did you test smell it?
The peroxide smells a little at first.
I made a batch Monday and it is good to go now.
Make sure to let it breath a little with a loose cap or it will build up pressure.

RE: homemade scent killer smell?
I made the same scent killer 4 weeks ago. I have let it sit and there is no smell. You might need to let it sit longer. Don't make too much like I did, it will just over flow the container with foam. I made a quaddruple batch. LOL!!!!![] The purpose of the "hydrogen peroxidekills the bacteriaand fungi" that grows when you sweat and the "baking soda is supposed to deodorizewhatever sneaks by." As a large guy, I sweat all the time. I plan on using this when I go hunting at the start of KS archery season this Sunday, October 1st. If you shake the container the mixturewill foam up again. []
The recipe is:
2cups distilled water
2cups 3% Hydrogen peroxide
1/2 cup baking soda
1ounce scent free shampoo
Mix all ingredients and place in a container that is 2-3 times the capacity of the mixture. Leave the lid off for about 3 days.
This recipe was listed in the August 2006 edition of Field & Stream.

I used distilled water,one gallon
Poured some of the water out to make room for the other stuff
Box of baking soda
bottle of peroxide
2 squirts of the green scent free hair and body soap
Pour everything into the gallon jug
Put the lid on,shake like crazy
Loosen the lid, watch the foam, well, foam out the top.
Tighten lid,shake like crazy
Repeat
repeat
repeat
let sit with lid loose for a couple hoursso it doesn't build up pressure and explode.
Skake some more, man that baking soda is hard to get to dissolve!
Let sit
shake
pour into old scent elimination bottles with the spray tops
Makes one gallon, for about 4.00 or less!

I did one batch by boiling the water and baking soda. It completely dissolved by doing so. I read to do it that way in a couple of recipies. I did the other batch the way you described. I also read that some guys were adding vinegar. I'm thinking about doing a third batch that way.

Guys, i got the peroxide in it and waited 2 days before checking it. im going to check it again soon. the cap was on loosely. Thanks for posting the recipe chestnuts.
Mauser06 - 3% hydrogen peroxide is the stuff for cuts. walmart has it for really cheap. like a dollar or something a bottle. I went to the hunting department and bought some Scent killer brand green shampoo.
Ill let you guys know How it works out. thanks for the tips
