Ladder stand?
Has anybody ever bowhunted out of a 10 - 12 foot ladder stand? I found a good deer trail crossing a dirt road, but the trees are too small for my climber and I dont care for ground blinds I like to be off the ground a lil bit. Any feedback or comments greatly appreciated...

RE: Ladder stand?
I have made a few before, it would be easier to buy a hang on, but a good homemade stand could do the trick, I have killed a few deer off of mine...

RE: Ladder stand?
depending on the area, a 12' ladder stand would be fine. I've hunted out of stands that were 12' and had deer directly below me.

I figure as long as I am down wind and pretty well concealed I will be alright..

I've hunted out of them on several occasions with success. They key is like hunting out of any other stand; down wind, concealment and a little bit of luck...

Thats all I use. I feel safer climbing up and down that ladder in the worst conditions. Large platform to move around on. My choice.

RE: Ladder stand?
it is a homemade ladder stand, I used sassafrass poles i cut in the woods and am using 1x4's for the step with a piece of 3/4 inch ply wood at the top. i have it set up so i can drag it in and out..If it were taller it wouldnt work cause the trees are kind small. I hope I can get it set up good and the wind will aloow me to hunt..

I've used them before. You can have success with them, but good concealment is always a factor

I use them a bunch here in VA. I prefer the 16' stands, but the 12' work pretty well also. The Wally World by me has a 12' double ladder stand on sale right now for $98. Great Buy!
