RE: Ladder stand?

If you have cover 12 ft is plenty. I havehunted and killed deer out of a 12ft stand a few times.

I prefer the 16ft ladder stand over the 12ft, but have had success in both.

Just make sure you have some type of foilage, low hanging limbsor something to break up you outline.

Don't just put it up against a bare tree trunk out in the open.

You want to blend in, not stick out. Also, follow other's advise about playing the wind.

If there isn't much to conceal you at that height you might be better off in a well camaflaged ground blind. But if you can hide among branches and leaves and get the wind right lt can be done.

you can always add branches behind you to help hide you.
I use an extra ratchet strap and just ratchet the extra branches to the tree.
Works like a charm.
Dick's had 15 ft ladders on sale for 59.00 last week
I may go get a few more this week. You can never have too many stands.:D

where I am hunting the pine trees are young and barely big enough for a ladder, but I think the branches will offer adequate cover... I hope so man.. man I cant wait to go hunting this evening...

If the trees are that small, have you considered a tripod stand? Many of them will help you get well above the 10-12' you'll get from your ladder stand.

I am not going to have time to go buy a tripod for this weekend, but I wish i had one.. Also it is onWMA and i have to take it down at night. Also if somebody steals my lil ladder stand it wont be near as bad as them stealing a new tripod.. thanks for the advice though...

it is a homemade ladder stand, I used sassafrass poles i cut in the woods and am using 1x4's for the step with a piece of 3/4 inch ply wood at the top. i have it set up so i can drag it in and out..If it were taller it wouldnt work cause the trees are kind small. I hope I can get it set up good and the wind will aloow me to hunt..
Be careful. That ladder sounds weak at best. The 3/4 plywood is fine, but I use 2x4's for the legs and steps. 12 ft 2 x4's are only about $4 here. It should be light, but I'd worry about the strength of the ladder.
