I never enter the woods without a sidearm, regardless of the season. In VA it's legal to carry a handgun concealed while bowhunting if you have a concealed carry permit. If you don't have one of these you are in violation of VA law. I normally carry a Sig Pro 2340 chambered for 357 SIG.

In correction to my own post i just found out that you can now pack heat during bow season. changed by Mitch Daniels.

Cant do it in Indiana. no bears or Mt. Lions here anyway. just a bunch of yotes that in all my years of hunting will not approach a human. The only thing i worry about is all the meth heads running around our area. I find there trash all along the roads and sometimes in the woods. DAM THEM!!
