You learned a valuble lesson.
You learned to draw your bow before they step into the opening.
It is harder for a deer to spot slow movement when they are moving themselves. Once they stop in the open, they pick up movement easily.
You got your first one with a bow and that is all it takes to get you hooked. Congratulations again!
