The weather cooled off consideraby yesterday so I spent about 2 hrs outside shooting yesterday evening. I came inside to check the string, serving and cables.(they're pretty old and frayed so I wax them everytime I shoot... hopefully they'll make it through this year.) Iwas looking at the Cam(Single cam on a Martin Phantom Mag) and noticed that the cam is not entirely parallel to the string and bus cable. Causing some serving wear on the string and cable. Upon further inspection, the cam itself is actually getting frayed from the string, especially on the draw module(which abhorrently enough is plastic).

I'm guessing that shooting it like this is asking for a blow up.

What are the causes for this and is there anything I can do to alleiviate it?

Don't know what caused it , but I wouldn't think of shooting it in that condition . Take it to a proshop and have it thoroughly inspected .

Could be a bent axle?

It could just be cam lean. Might need to twist the cables on one side.

What bow are you shooting that has plastic modules on the cam? Are you sure that it's not just a coating? Many these days have teflon or some other sort of coating on the cams and modules, which is likely what you are seeing being frayed.

How is the cam time? Did you mark it when it was shooting right? If you have a press, check the axil. If it is limb twist, replace it. I would not shoot it in that condition. Not only will you cause more problems, but is also dangerouse. Id check everything. Tiller, timeing, cam/wheel spacers, limb pocket, etc. etc...

Yeah, plastic modules. I'm pretty sure its not just a coating. the serving is chewing into the cable channel pretty good... I mentioned to the shop guy I'd expected them to be aluminum at least. He just kinda scoffed and said... "on a martin?"

Tiller is good. Smack dab the same. It is the distance from limb to string measured at the point the limb meets the riser right? I never thought to check the timing. I didn't think it was vital with a singlecam. If it is off, ist not by much. Limb pockets are both clear. I checked before bottoming out the limbs.
