Default Field points low/broadheads high?

Hey guys, I got one for ya.

When shooting field points, I can group to 3" circles at 30 yds. I change over to BHs and my impact point seems to raise about 5". I am still in alignment and getting good groups with the broadheads, it's just that they hit higher. The 2 are the same weight. I have even tried a lighter field point. That didn't seem to help.

I am now practicing with BH only but that has done a job on my 3D target. Not to mention, instant fletching removal in tight groups.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

By the way,I'm shooting Muzzy 100gr. 3 blades.(sorry no flyers)
consistantly high.

Any ideas...form or equipment?

Thanks in advance.
Jack

First thing to do is purchase the practice blades for your BH if you haven't already.

If you have the ability to refletch and align your BH blades with the fletching. I heard this helps.

I shoot a 3 blade 125 gr muzzy and am dead nuts to what my field tips do so I haven't had to mess around any. I read that tip above somewhere.

Good luck

This isn't uncommon, although mine usually always hit a little low. If you are grouping I would say it is the equipment. You might try another brand of bh and see what it does. But if your grouping, keep after it. You might need to invest in a fletcher.

Good Luck and keep shooting

Thanks.
I have asked Santa for a fletching jig and clamp. between fletching arrows and fly tying, Momma's not gonna se much of me this winter.

I think I'm gonna buy a pack of Muzzy 125's today and see what happens. Those practice blades that Muzzy puts in the pkg. tear up my McKenzie even more!

Thanks again

I use 125 grain Tru-flite 3 blade BH and mine shoot lower than the field points. This drove me nuts for awhile. Finally I bought a new set of BH just for hunting and used the old set for pratice. As far as tearing up your target. I use straw bales for a stop with a cardboard cutout of a deer on it for reference. The bales I bought for $2.00 apiece and the cutout cost me $4.00. You can't pull the broadheads back out though. You must push them all the way through the other side. Fletchings will get sliced off. But my pro shop guy puts new ones on my arrows for a quarter apiece so I feel it's worth it.

I would by some replacement blades for the broadheads, move my pin up a bit to adjust for the 5&quot; high issue, practice some more and go hunting. Getting good groups is very important, but after my bow is tuned up I tend to stop trying to hit the same spot over and over and start trying to hit the spot I am looking at for that particular shot. The kill area is large enough on the mackenzies, move the sight pin over an inch (up an inch, etc...) and you will save valuable fletching, as well as find out how good you are really shooting.

Sounds like you are shooting very well, just need to adjust the point of impact for the sighting system.

Mass,

You are very close!!

Move your nock up or rest down in 1/32&quot; incriments. Very good chance you can get the same impact point.

You're nock is a little too low, causing the broadheeads to show the error more than the field points, so they group higher.
I'd tighten the top limb bolt about 1/8 of a turn, this will raise your nock point a few thousands of an inch. The broaadhead group should come down into the field points.
If you're already maxed out with the limb bolts, just loosen the bottom bolt the same amount.
Don't turn it too much, you're pretty close as it is if you're within a few inches at 30 yards.

I have the opposite problem.
my broadheads shoot about 5&quot; below
my field points. I am shooting
very tight groups with the broadheads
so I strictly practice and set my sights
with them. As long as the arrows are flying
good and grouping good I wouldnt mess
with the tuning too much.

Since you're shooting tight groups with both, it's obviously not your form. I was having a similar problem earlier this summer. I downloaded the tuning guide from Easton's web site. It's actually pretty simple to get your broadheads and field points grouping in the same spot. That eliminates the need to adjust your sight for one or the other. Rack-Attack is right on the money. You just need to move your nock down or your rest up in VERY small increments until both broadheads and field points will impact at the same spot. For more info visit the Easton site and download the tuning guide.
