How are the deer racks in your area?

I saw one that had busted half his rack off. It was rather bloody all down his ear. As the peice of hanging velvet moved you could tell it was bugging him.

Deer here in Va. are still velvet, but are about done. any Va. hunter knows that the real monsters are deep in the woods. But they will show their faces in the rut. I hunt deep in the mountains, I find it easier to locate food sources that way. 3 choices, acorns, acorns, and acorns. They will eat laurels in late season. Alot of people don't see the big deer in Va. but theyre here. I have a 130 class 8 as my biggest, but I've seen some scary big bucks around. Almost hit one in a car a few years ago that had drop tines everywhere. It just stood in the road and it took all my nerve not to reach for the omega loaded in the back seat.

Here in East Tennessee, i have seen quite a few more bucks, just havent seen a whole lot with size. if a few of the bucks i have seen, would make it a few more years, boy they would be some dandy bucks. heck i seen a spike the other day, in my back yard in town, had 10-11 inch spikes, it was awesome and actually beautiful, they crossed at the top. but all and all things seem to get better, tell you more in about a month

This is something I've really learned about because of my game camera over the past few years. In Central Minnesota the bucks are still growing. They have a few weeks. My cam pictures over the past few years are almost exactly the same. Bucks shed there velvet from Aug 28 to Sept 10. When it starts its over very quickly....a bloody mess. I have numerous pics of bucks in velvet and 2 days later its totally gone. While its comming off they are pretty bloody.
The date I have with the most bucks in the shed stage is Setp 3.
Good Luck!

Still in velvet here in Illinios but I seen a small 8 the other day at my parents house in W.VA that had bare horns already. My mother had to put netting around her small trees because of rub marks on them!
