Default draw-loc. anyone know anything about them?

My dad hasn't been able to bowhunt for about five years due to a shoulder injury. His doctor finally sent out his information to the WVDNR to get him a permit to use a locking device on a bow. He's been approved. The doc is trying to get dad to fill out the paperwork for a crossbow permit, but he thinks that's cheating......hell, took him five years to agree to a drawloc.

Has anyone used a drawloc or similar device? How difficult are they to install? Should my proshop do the install or could a couple amatures get it done. Any information is appriciated.

It'll be installed on an older Maritn Firecat. nothing fancy but nice bow none the less.

Are they worth the effot to fool with or should he just get the crossbow permit?

I applaud your dad for sticking to his guns/principles and decide on a drawloc over a crossbow though I find nothing wrong with either if you decide or can't pull a bow back...

Setting up a drawloc is the same as setting up a rest, in all tense and purpose, the drawloc is your rest so if your able/experienced in setting up a rest, do it yourself, if you don't know how to tune a rest/drawloc, visit your local proshop, good luck.

I believe he will still have to pull the bow. The one I saw was on a high poundage bow and it only gave the guy time to rest. He still had to get it back. He just didn't have to hold it.

correct nodog but it can be done with the foot....doesn't matter how you get it back, it locks at full draw.

My father in law uses one - He has to load the bow with his foot. He also uses a stablizing device that hooks to his wrist and on a belt around his waist to help him hold the bow steady for a shot. Its a neat little hinged device that "locks in" solid when his bow is up at the proper height. Without it he could never hold any bow at arm's length - say nothing about drawing the bow back.

Draw loc has its place - and he shoots targets well enough - but in 4 years - he's yet to take a deer with it - its a cumbersome setup at best - and his especially - given his severe arthritis & pinned wrists. He has a very very tough time getting situated for a shot without alerting the deer. We've tried our best to work with in the laws of NY for him - butright now - we'd liketo see crossbows legalized in some fashion for severly impaired hunters (not just quadrpalegics like it is in NY now).

I sent a message to my bud Jaws. He has a good amount of experience setting up people with physical challenges, and is in very close with pcba. He should be able to help a good bit......

"it can be done with the foot...."

I know how that works on a crossbow but I can't see it with a compound. Which end gets the foot?

Thanks rick for the help. Any tips and advice is appriciated.

nodog.....you put your foot on the risers handle area and pull back the string with a hand and it locks into place. I saw it on there advertisments awhile back.

thanks all for the info.
