All hunters thinking of doing this hunt should go to this site and read this. They just updated the site this morning and sent me an email. Read it and think about it, let's talk about it etc. I'll start, it kind of looks like it will be a bag of worms. The mans wife sent me an email with this link that tells how they'll do it. Not only do you have to wait until the day before you want to hunt, but they allow others, they have a problem with poachers infringing etc etc. It sounds kind of wormy to me, but maybe that's the way it is in PA. Read and let us know what you think. Sounds like we could have a chinese firedrill going. But, if ya'll want to try anyway I guess I'd have to go.

That's not a case of how it is in PA, just a case of how they want it done.
Or perhaps more the point, how they are going to use hunters to take care of their problem (too many deer eating thier trees) without having to go thru all the things needed for a GC permit to do a herd reduction and/or paying a "professional" to come in and reduce the numbers.
Plain and simple. They want to kill off as many deer as they can, and they want "us" to do it for them so they can stay legal or just save money.

If a deer leaves our property leave it go. No tresspassing or asking and bothering our neighbors. They don't want to meet you even if your uncle is the President. There are more deer. Just get the next one.
Just wondering (more hoping they are not asking hunters to let wounded animals go just so their neighbors are not bothered).

OK, everyone listen up. I just talked to the man. He said that he WOULD work with us. He said he just can't be getting 100 calls a day and had to have a way of deceminating the information for ALL to have an equal opportunity. He further invited me to come up and look the property over. He said there are lots of deer and we would havea good hunt. He passed on the information about the poachers just so people would be aware of it. He's working with the DEC to keep a handle on these folks. So, disregard my post at the beginning of this thread. We need to have some input from folks to make sure they're interested. If all that expressed an interest are still good to go we should have fun. The guy is a firm believer in giving people who don't have a place to hunt the opportunity to do so in an enjoyable atmosphere. It will be a good deal if we work this out. He stated he doubted we'd beable to draw any doe tags, so unless you're from PA and have them for that area it'll more than likely be bucks only, and he wants some dead deer. As soon as we get a break in this weather I'll make a road trip and look the place over. He said lots of deer and places to hunt. If we can get some of these young whippersnappers a deer it would be good. Those of you from PA near this area would beable to continue hunting there lands in accordance with his web page instructions. Talk to me people. Everyone will be responsible for his/her own license so check the PA DEC home page to find out what you need if you're an out of stater. Check reciprocal cost etc if from a neighboring state.

David, I am interested!!!!!!!!!
Doe tags I think you will be able to get them. I am a PA resident and they give alot away for that unit. Besides nonresidents get a shot at doe tags before residents can get bonuses.

There are always people who can't beleive an opportunity when they see one. How many of you would ever offer in a public forum others the invitation to hunt on their own private ground? Do many of you beleive that nursery men need to hire professional deer killers when they can just carry and kill 24hrs a day? I could easily lease the properties out to clubs and restrict access. Save money, heck why not make money? I would rather seelots of peopleenjoy the thrill of a hunt then just waste my time and efforts on crop control or make more money. Last year some people who work picking up trash for Allied Wastegot to hunt here on one of my offerings and had the time of their lives. Knowing that I gave them the best hunting adventure they ever had was my reward.
I have always tried to make our lands as open to the general public as possible. Our Doylestown farm is surrounded by urban sprall. I allow as much access as possible to hunters, fishermen, birdwatchers and even people with their dogs. I can't see crying about crop damage and then restricting access. I just beleive that I should set out reasonable rules and try to keep order. For, as big of a hunt as this can be, there has to be ORDER AND RULES. If each hunter wants the rules to his liking there really is no order and the hunt will be a mess. There will be 50 different sets of rules for 50 different hunters.
Try to think how you would run this event and not how it best suits your likings. If you want straight permission to hunt whenever you want, what happens when 10 guys show up at the same spot? You will say I let to many people come to the site. If you ask permission for a particular day and I say no maybe you could think of a reason why I said no. Maybe 10 others have already asked?
As far as signup days and how far in advance to call, this is done for my convenance and not yours. I have other things to do than pay game master. I know that if you sign up weeks in advance, many of you will be no shows. I have indicated that I will work with the group that wants to organize a group outing. I can dothis for afew groups. I too, don't want to hunt alone. I belong to a group and we always hunt together. I understand what you all are thinking and understand your positions.
I want to make this hunt available for the most amount of people as possible. I want as little bother to my neighbors. Do you understand that some don't want you to hunt or go on their private property.Maybe they hate deer killing and don't want to here about how ethical is for you to go on their property and retreive that deer that you wounded? Some of my neighbors hate hunting. I will direct you away from their properties. Think about all the different views neighbors might have re this offering. Do you think they are going to welcome you to the neighborhood?
I can go on and on and I am sure that this crew will try to disect and go over every word I write. But here is a recent example.
Aman stopped in afew months ago and wanted to have hisbeagles chase rabbits. I said okay showed him the lines and asked that he just stay on my property. I told him don't go next door. Well after afew times hunting a neighbors hedge row was just to much for him and his dogs. So they chased rabbits overthru the neighbors hedge rowand dogs went right to the neighbors green houses. This upset the neighbors cats and they disrubted the neighbors afternoon. The rabbiteer told me all about the event. How it was nice to meet the neighbor and how everything was fine. Yet the neighbor called me to ask that this man never go back and hunt with his dogs. He wanted me to settle it and not be bothered.
If you don't like my rules in this hunt, well, expain howto make it better, make suggestions for what you think is better. Have any of you ever done anything like this before ? I hope you all can be contributers to the hunt instead of being upset withhow it is being run. I have been thru this before. I have come to know what works and what does not. Yet I know that there is always room for improvement. Bill

Count me in at the campfire.
All I ask is to be well informed. I will follow ANY and ALL rules in place no questions asked. I just don't want to drive 3 hours and drop $160 on tags and end up in chaos.
If everyone is well informed (on both ends) I see no reason why this can not be accomplished.
I have nothing but complete faith in Davidmil's word so if he says things are on the up and up then I am on my way.
I will even throw this idea out there for those who are thinking of going but maybe cost is an issue. If you guys would like I will bring my butchering table and my grinder and we can process any deer for someone who may not want the additional cost of butcher fees for one or two deer. Maybe even help some of the young guys learn how to do it themselves for the future. Just an idea. All we need is some electricity and cold beverages of choice and we will have a blast!!! Nothing like story telling while turning a hunt into bite sized portions.
I hope this works out.
