PETA vs. Bowhunters?
#1
I was at the local archery shop yesterday, and the owner of the shop told methat PETA is going after bowhunting in 2008. Hesaid that initially PETA will take their fight to 5 different states, including South Carolina. Naturally this stoked my interest, since I live in Columbia, SC.
He says PETA is well funded and will havea 100 million dollar bugdet for their campaign. Bowhunters are the minority when it comes to deer hunting, and thats why they've decided to attack us. Its very possible for them to petition enough votes to ban bowhunting in many states. Apparently, PETA has video and pictures of living deer that were severely wounded due to poor shot placement with a bow. PETA will use the pics and video in their commercials, as well as anything else they can pull out of a hat.
I don't know how much of this is true, maybe some of you guys that know one way or the other can fill us in on the details. I'm planning on doing some research on this and I'll post whatever I come up with.

I don't know what the deer population is down there, but if it's anything like it is here up in ontario (out of control), I would think your Department of Natural Resources would have a real problem without the help of the hunters. There is a strong counter argument.
Peta has been agressively attacking the seal hunt in Newfound land, and while i think they have won the hearts of alot of animal rights activists in the states, they've really polarized most Canadian's with their campaign.
The worst part about it is the lies these guys are spreading, there using photos of white coat seal pups to win over the public, when the pups aren't involved in the hunt. They've always been illegal to kill.

What then is PETA's Ethical way to hunt deer or any other animals? To me this is a bunch on bull on how they explain why hunting is cruel and unnecessary here is the link I to all the nonsense, as I call it:

Both PETA and the HSUS have stated publicly that they will strive to get bowhunting banned and that they will be targeting bowhunting as part of their greater strategy to eliminate all hunting . Their initial goal is to get it banned in a single state in order to establish legal precedent , then take their idiotic fight to other states until bowhunting is eliminated . Banning bowhunting is just the foot in the door however , they eventually want to get all hunting banned . Of the two the HSUS is much larger and much better funded , IMO they are the greater threat since nearly anyone who has ever heard of PETA thinks of them as total flakes . The HSUS is also frequently mistaken for the American Humane Society , who don't particularly like hunting but don't campaign against it . The AHS runs many of your local animal shelters , HSUS is an entirely political org whose mission is to end all hunting and other animal use . The best weapon we have is to educate the non-hunting public as to the importance of hunting to our state game agency's game management plans , and the part that hunters and fishermen play in conservation and public land aquisition and maintenence .

Hate to say but the talking heads will neverbe able toban hunting, it's a multi billion dollar industry providing an unbelieveable amount of jobs, and millions of dollars if not billions of dollars in funding that goes toward the acquisition and preservation of much of the land these organizations say is so important to the wildlife. These people need to realize that here (at least in Ohio) much of the public land that these animals call home was bought and paid for from license fees coming from the hunting public.
Until PETA or HSUS or whomever can find a way to replace a several billion dollar industry, countless government dollars and funding, this won't happen. That said it is important as members of the hunting community to continue to uphold firm ethics and educate all those out there about the practices of ethical hunting.
