Whisker Biscuit making noise???
#71
Yea there is a way. If you fart and the buck jumps than its pretty safe to say the fart spooked him. If the man says he drew back and the noise caught the attention of the deer than give him the benefit of doubt. On a quiet morning in the woods you can almost hear your own heart beat much less an arrow dragging across 500 whiskers.

Someone who doesn't know better reads that and thinks to themselves, "that Whisker Biscuit must be a piece of s&!t, I better not buy one."
I know for a fact that depending on the weather and what I am wearing, my clothes make more noise when I draw than my bow does. This is even with those evil noise making camo wrapped Beman ICS Hunters.
Too many variables to blame one thing, could it have been the rest? sure but it could have been alot of other things as well. Was I there? no but I am relying on many years of bow hunting as my guide.

Hi Atlasman,
I use the WB myself and am not looking to change that.
I was new to bowhunting last year. The WB was my first rest. The day i brought the bow home a friend and I were trying it out. He is an experienced bowhunter so I asked him to help me learn to usemy bow.
After the first few shots he said to me that he could hear the arrow dragging against the WB. Granted he was only maybe 8-10 feet from me. I also heard it but wasn't sure if it was something a new WB did and would eventually go away. It never did.
We were doing this in my yard in an area that has some pouplation and he could here it from 8 feet. SBGobblers was only 9 yards from his deer. If my friend could hear the noise from 8 feet in a neighborhood it is possible that the deer could hear it from 27 in the quiet woods.
Now, that being said. I also read on hear last year that others were having noise issues with Camo shafts. I swithed to the black shafts and the noise level has been reduced tremendously. Is there still a slight noise? sure but I can barely hear it.
Now that there is no noise I think the rest is great and wouldnt switch to another. I can tell you though with certainty that there was a noise with my first set of arrows that was loud enough for me and my hunting friendto be concerned about a deer hearing it.

All I can go by Danny is the thousands of shots I have seen and heard from my bow and all the people close to me that shoot them as well. I personally have shot flat black, glossy black, cross weave, photo camo and even a bunch of old alluminums I had laying around. My brothers and my friends all shoot different arrows and I just don't hear it. We all draw on and kill deer with no noise issues at all. I have no idea what your biscuit looks likeon your bow.........I have no idea if it is setup properly or not. I do know my bow and those close to me and I know they are all setup properly..........and the noise is just not there.
My honest opinion is that I believe the people hearing this "noise" have their biscuit installed wrong or are shooting the wrong size opening. It is VERY important that the biscuit be at 90 degrees to the ground and not "leaning" forwards or backwards..........this is something very few people look at and something I believe has a lot to do with the way the bristles contact the arrow as it drag backwards during the draw.
I'm glad you like your rest...........mine has performed flawlessly for going on 4 years now. Have fun with it.

What they are saying isthat ifyou play with the launcher with your finger and move it to the launch positionand release it you will hear a noise; this noisewon't happen when a bow is drawn and shot as the buss cable is lowering it as the bow is fired.
Actually that is not what they said...........read the reviews. Don't put words in their mouth.
Here is another sample for ya
Only complaint I can find is that it is somewhat loud on both the draw and release
I don't see anything about playing with the launcher and I see BOTH the draw and release mentioned as noisy. A familiar theme in all the reviews. I can post more if you would like..........they are easy to find

You can not hear a Trophy Takermake a noisewhen a bow is drawnor fired; and that is a Fact
No point of impact change and not getting snagged on a twig and no bunch of moving parts.
I would hate to think what freezing rain would do to all of those bristles on a WB. A million frozen bristles or a 1/8'' piece of moleskinfroze; that's a no brainer as to which will provide better arrow flight.
]
You are mistaking the 10,000 ones that are on here week after week complaining about their WB
No..........actually I am not. They are all right here in this very thread. I can post many, many more if you would like........I just gave you a sample. Unbiased reviews by owners and users of Trophy Taker rests.
Ouch.

Atlas and I must have magical Whisker Biscuits because neither of ours:
1. damage our fletchings,
2. Slow our arrows down more that 1-2fps,
3. make enough noise to be even slightly worried about even the closest of shots.
And all of that with NO additional materials needed.....just put it on the bow and ADJUST IT CORRECTLY.
Never have to worry about it or adjust it or worry about something breaking...nothing. If fact, it's become the most consistant and reliable part on my bow!
SBGobblers,
Don't take this the wrong way but I too think you are mistaken, While you may have been hunting for 30 years, I believe last year was your first bow hunting for deer. After a few more years with a bow in your hand you will realize that perhaps it could have been something else that spooked that deer.
I also think that you are projecting the wrong message to new bow hunters about the Whisker Biscuit rest. There is no way you could have known for sure what spooked that deer....no way.

Did the sound of the fart spook him??.......or was it the smell??......or maybe it was the motion of you lifting your leg??

It's simple. Noise is not the preferred thing to have coming from your bow. If it makes noise, quiet it. If you can't quiet it and you're uncomfortable with it... JUST GET RID OF THE THING!!! What could be easier. Atlas can quote and requote all he wants. It doesn't change what YOU hear.Get rid of the thing. I can't begin to reply to all the claims but one struck me as a one sided arguement. Someone said sure moleskin is quiet, but is it quiet when it's frozen. You were led to believe no but the WB of course was a cure all. I'd love to see how quiet a WB is when it's frozen. I know... I KNOW... whisper soft. Yeah....right...whatever. Here's your sign.

I have been out in the worst weather you can imagine, so bad that I had to keep knocking off the ice that was building up on my arrow while I had the bow on my lap. The biscuit never froze and I believe made even less of a sound when drawn due to residual moisture on the arrow shaft.
I have never needed any kind of spray or de-icer of any kind. Thedarn restjust works well.......and quietly I might add.

P.S. BigJ... I believe I hunted on that same day in the Adirondacks about 36 years ago, or was it 30. YUP, knocked off the snow and ice, walked naked through a blinding gale just to get to the car in the garage. Once I got out of the garage the wind blew me to the top of the mountain(very gas efficient). And of course there were deer everywhere and they never heard me draw.[8D][8D]
