Being at close range, and 15ft up. Its probably good chance your pass through came out low, which would explain the white hair. Bright red blood usually indicates a good vital hit in the lungs. If you got both lungs he didn't go far. Did you hear any noises from the deer when he ran. I've heard deer gasping for air when I've gotten both lungs. The rain is definitly a problem for you, but don't give up hope. You'll have to go by his tracks, punch marks left in the ground, and hope to find what blood you can if any. If you can't find him, you may want to look into deer recovery dogs. They are capable of tracking by scent even after it rains. Good Luck!

From your description of the "bright blood" I would say there is a pretty good chance you made a fatal hit on the deer. Of course when it comes to colors it seems everyones interpretation is a little different. I think most people would say if a deer runs away with its tail tucked down it is an indication of a liver or stomach hit, but don't get discouraged because that is not always 100% true. Did you happen to smell your arrow? Sometimes what looks like good blood on the arrow can be interpreted better by your nose than your eyes. If you had a gut shot you should be able to smell that foul smell on your shaft. When you say the deer "jumped" when you shot, did he kick his back legs up like a bucking bronco? That is usually an indication of a good hit even if you find white hair.
At any rate get permission to search your neighbors. Do a THOROUGH SEACH and you will probably find your prize.
Good luck.

you mentioned that you saw a little purple. was this in the form of blood, or particles of some kind. this may be a part of the liver. if it is stomach contents, are there beets, or turnips in the area the buck may have been feeding on? cover all the bases first. since you are waiting til morning, if the deer is gut shot or shot in the liver with a little luck you will find the animal. it should get cool enough tonight that the meat wont ruin, unless it is gutshot. good luck. i know it is a sickening feeling to loose an animal.

The lung is not the only area where bright red blood comes from; others are artery and heart. Although this sounds like a low lung hit [the purple color presence] and possibly heart [I say this because we know the hit was a little low as the presence of white hair indicates. The underside ot the whitetail is white . . . kinky and curley in the gut area.
A heart or lung shot deer can travel a long way in the few fractions of a second it has left.
I wouldn't be surprised if you found the animal within a hundred yards of where you last saw him. When you find him give us an analysis of the hit.
