From your description of the "bright blood" I would say there is a pretty good chance you made a fatal hit on the deer. Of course when it comes to colors it seems everyones interpretation is a little different. I think most people would say if a deer runs away with its tail tucked down it is an indication of a liver or stomach hit, but don't get discouraged because that is not always 100% true. Did you happen to smell your arrow? Sometimes what looks like good blood on the arrow can be interpreted better by your nose than your eyes. If you had a gut shot you should be able to smell that foul smell on your shaft. When you say the deer "jumped" when you shot, did he kick his back legs up like a bucking bronco? That is usually an indication of a good hit even if you find white hair.

At any rate get permission to search your neighbors. Do a THOROUGH SEACH and you will probably find your prize.
