The lung is not the only area where bright red blood comes from; others are artery and heart. Although this sounds like a low lung hit [the purple color presence] and possibly heart [I say this because we know the hit was a little low as the presence of white hair indicates.The underside ot the whitetail is white . . . kinky and curley in the gut area.

A heart or lung shot deer can travel a long way in the few fractions of a second it has left.

I wouldn't be surprised if you found the animal within a hundred yards of where you last saw him. When you find him give us an analysis of the hit.
