ORIGINAL: Rick James

Wait a second...you are of the opinion that these lower tier products should not be available to the public to help protect the "pro shops", even if that means that we are going to price potential new archers out of the sport?
Never said that.........just asked a question.......Is discount mega store selling that will put pro shops out of business "good" for bowhunting.

I am confused.......does this industry revolve around the shop owners or the customers?
Little of both I guess........uninformed customers with poorly setup gear will not be customers for very long.........but shop owners can't price themselves out of the game either because people will only pay so much for customer service. They have done studies that showed people would pump their own gas in any weather to save 2 cents a gallon........hard to believe but true.

Do you work at a pro shop that has been affected by this?
Nope.

Since I recognize that there is a need for the lower tier products to help beginners/occasional archers get started, I feel the appropriate place to purchase them are at the "box stores", as they are better poised to sell the lower margin products and still stay open. The only thing I feel is important is to keep the pro shop series higher end bows like Bowtech, Mathews, Hoyt, Martin (Pro series), etc out of the box shops..........
How long do you think that will be before you start to see that happen? Bowtech already has bows in Gander that sell for almost $600.......seems to me like they are all just testing the waters to see where they can make the most money.............I don't believe for one second that if any of the major bow companies could make a killing through either Cablea's or Bass Pro or through a big chain store that they wouldn't do it in a heartbeat. That's fine........I don't care one way or the other.........sell your bows at the corner gas station if you want to.

What I DO fing interesting is how the perception is changing in the archery world............selling your bows in a WAL-MART type setting got a universal thumbs down just a few years back and was a main reason why many people considered some bow companies lower quality equipment no matter what model it was. Fred Bear, Martin, PSE etc could have made the sweetest bow on the planet and people would still turn their noses up at it because they see those same names on the shelf at Dick's.

Now that Bowtech is doing the EXACT same thing.........all the sudden everyone is singing their praises for the noble gesture of bringing archery to the masses.

I wonder how much that has to do with a lot of these people now finding themselves holding a bow that looks eerily similar to ones on those same store racks.

Also the blanket assumption that the "box stores" don't have as high quality employees working for them is not correct at all.
Which is why I never made such a blanket statement.

Saying the box stores are giving bad advice by the 18 year old summer employed people behind the counter is just as bad as sayingdomestic vehicles have more maintenance cost in 150,000 miles of ownership as compared to a foreign vehicle...... That would be an inaccurate assumption correct?
I have seen and heard PLENTY of HORRIBLE advice in chain stores first hand..........is that true everywhere?.......of course not and I made that very clear in my first post.

American vehicles will ALWAYS cost me more...........because that is all I will ever buy
