What to expect at 3D tournaments?

So how should one prepare if they plan on doing a 3D shoot? What is allowed, not allowed, what are the average maximum distances, etc? I don't know a thing about these.
What happens if you are the best archer that day?

i've found there is so much variety between between places(little differences in everything) my best advice is just go and learn that way. You will catch on,its addicting.

If you want to go, just go with having fun in mind and get a good group of buddies together. It is a lot of fun, and can be quite addicting.
Typically in my area, winners will bring home either a small trophy or $$$.

Just go an have a good time with it. Sometimes you shoot with someone who takes it too serious and I usually like to talk up a storm when there shooting. If they say anything I ask them if you can't handle the pressure whats makes you think you can handle the pressure at shooting a real deer?

Thanks guys! Do yall usually lose a few arrows while doing this? I was looking on this one site and it seems that these tournaments only come around every 2-3 months in my area. I wouldn't mind giving it a try but I don't have any bowhunter friends. They are gunners.

Ducsauce.....I just shoot in my first 3D last Saturday. It WAS a blast and I loved it. The first target off the bat was an Elk on the other side of a raveen, about 40 yards and it looked like 100!! I was just happy to hit the darn thing! The few problems my husband and I had....due to lack of experience....were not knowing where the kill spot was on some of the targets and not having binoculars to see the kill spots. I went to the archery shop yesterday and got a target card which shows all of the McKenzie and Delta targets and their kill spots. I understand some 3D shoots don't allow binoculars or range finders, so be sure to check. Also tick spray and a towel if it's humid where you are.
Good luck and have fun.
There's another one this Sunday about an hour from here I'm hoping to go to if I can get the hubby to go. By the way......smoked him....I got 355 out of 480 possible and he got 289.
Good luck...Diann

They are so much fun, but go with friends or get in a group with people that are there, then you make new friends! Find a group that is easy going. Kinda like golf(if you play), its either a lot of fun, or a long day(except i dont recomend throwing your bow, which has happened a time or two). You learn real quick what to expect. Take a set of binoculars to see the vital zones, expect to loose an arrow or two, and the elk look closer than they really are, lol.
