Why is it that the fishermen are "REAL FISHERMEN" when they practice catch and release but these hunters would be just a bunch of "BOZOS"? I guess I am not a real fishermen cause if I am going to go fishing I am coming home with supper and more to go in my freezer for supper another day. They are both a catch and release style of "hunting". Yes fishing is hunting, you are just doing it in the water.
At least Real Fisherman do practice catch & release sometimes (maybe all the time) in the real world. Not like these BOZOs' idea.
Fishing and hunting are not the same as fish and animals are not the same-- common sense--although they are similar. Both must be treated with the utmost respect. If you want to starta campaign against those pro Bass tournaments--feel free--If it sounds likea good thing perhaps I'll sign up, meanwhile, I'll pick my battles wisely, and the one against these goobers is a no-brainer

Hillbilly,I am going to quote you here but these questions are not directed to you and only you because I see that so many are absolutely against this league. More along the lines of general questions for everyone.
So why then, if catch and release is so wrong,is it ok for people to obviously disrespect the fish and not the deer?
Why not?It isare obviously OK, or at least not"wrong" toputing fish through the "tortures" of being caught and released so why not animals? Why is "big business fishing" ethically sound but "big business hunting" isn't?
BTW,fishing and hunting are exactly the same thing. You arein persuit of an animal in the hopes of capturing or killing it for food or fun.The only differance is that one animal lives in the water and the other on the land.
Like I said, I am not in favor of this league but morallyand/ orethically it makes absolutely no sense for anyone to support catch and release fishing and oppose catch and release hunting.
Both must be treated with the utmost respect.
However, no hunter I know practices catch and release hunting, so why have these idiots start some new trend that can onlylead to perpetuating "big business hunting" and deteriorating ethics. As I said, I don't particularly like those Bass tournaments but some outdoorsman do.

I dont want to get in an argument with any one but I find it hard to compare fishing with hunting. Its like comparing softball with baseball. Its similar but yet different. Its like comparing apples to oranges. JMHO

Bigbulls,
I respect what you have to say on many issues and you seem to have a lot of knowledge that you help people with in firearm review area.
However,
I disagree with you on this issue:
"TORTURES"?!?!? Fish don't feel pain like that--their brains are too small. This sounds like something PETA would say.
I never said Catch and release was wrong. I said those Bass tournaments are boring. Catch and Release is definately a practice of mine and of most people I know. Catch and release does not disrespect the fish.
I can understand your train of thought (or of thoughts of a devils advocate) but it is not sound.
If you want to practice catch and release hunting---TAKE A CAMERA!!

A dumpster diver is someone who goes through the trash, places people want nothing to do with. Places people don't lease. Places those guys wouldn't go. Where the pressure is high and the mature deer are few.
If I cared too I could make a film that would cause people to laugh themselves silly. I sat in one place last year on the last day of Ohio's ML that had me just about falling out of my stand (I was the only one in one) Nobody of the cast of characters knew I was there and having filled all but an urban tag I was in no hurry to fill another. Just finishing the season off right. I was also, out of the five members of the cast the last one out of the woods. The leading character was dressed in street shoes, blue jeans , an orange vest and an orange cowboy hat 2 sizes to small.SUCKING ON A HUGE STOGIE. He was putting the creep on the whole way in stopping 20 yrds out. Then he goes into a coughing frenzy, regroups and moves on, stops and sees something on the ground and is off in hot pursuit. Do you think those guys will be there?
I plan on being the best dumpster diver there is. And proud of it.

Using a tranqualizer is beside the point. The whole point is trying to have a hunting sports league.

The difference between deer and fish is HUGE. I won't even get into the obvious water/land issue. Let's talk about cognitive ability. Brain the size of a peanut, or brain the size ofa baseball.... hmmm.... It's a no-brainer... HAHA(man that was cheesy)....
The differences between hunting and fishing go more into the depths of perception and intent. Unless you want to be legalistic and start arguing definitions then it could become about techniques. And the problem with this "competition" has less to do with the tranquelizer dart(although it is a big con on the pro/con list), and more to do with the percepted reality of what is actually happening, and what you are doing it to. There is a huge difference in the perception of the whitetail and of the Largemouth bass or bill fish.
Hunting is about not only killing and eating, but about comuning with nature, and being out there just God, your weapon, you and sometimes your buddies or family, and God willing a deer will join you for supper.(hehe) It's about sunsets, and sunrises, frost on the ground, and the breeze on your face. We're on this earth as not only stewards of the other life on it, but as partakers as well. Last I checked money didn't have much of a place in nature. Money doesn't feed a pack of wolves. This whole sham of a "competition" is a thinly veiled perversion of our beloved heritage for the sake of greed.
Regardless of what modern pro sports and their multi-million dollar contractssay, true Competition has nothing to do with the prize won, but the pleasure of competing. How many of us play through grouling softball tournements. Do we do it for the $5 trophy waiting for us at the end? Does the guy in camp who shoots the biggest buck get hoisted on teh shoulders of his campmates? Is there abig checkwaiting for me if I beat my best friend at a video game?

I personally disagree heartally with bigbulls. Fishing is almost all catch and release anyway so what they are doing is what we are doing. But, hunting is sssssoooo totally different. And I personally dont care if a few of thier 20 pound Bass die. But I have a special place in my heart for real hunting and I think many would agree with me. Hunting is not about publicity and and winning millions. Just my thought.

No one here goes goo goo gaa gaa about Tiffany Lekowski when she and a big buck are published in a magazine or on this very board?
No one here has any animals registered with B&C or P&Y?
I could go on and on with examples of publicity and millions of dollars but it would take up several pages.
I never knew there were so many hypocrites on this board. [&:]
Oh well. If you guys can't see the similaraties between the twonothing i will say is gong to change your minds.
I'll just leave this discussion and you all can keep on boycotting all you want.
