Default Paper tuning

When paper tuning, what kind of point should I have on my arrow. I mean should I use a fieldpoint or no point at all. Thanks

I am thinking field or target point. I am thinking with a broadhead, if something is off, it could distort the shot and you want to make sure you get the imprint of the feathers. IMHO.

Yes a point. You're trying to see how your set up slings an arrow, not how it slings an arrow minus a head.

field point so that the fletchings can be seen in the torn paper as to how the arrow is going through the paper. You want to see a nice even tear where the fletchings alll went through straight.I think paper tuning is way over rated IMO...you can have a friend see how your arrows are flying by standing behind you and also most guys at a proshop set a bow up to where they are always right on anyway. The pro shop guy can watch your arrow flight too and tell if everything is great.

When tuning (including paper tuning) a compound, I used to tune for what I was planning on doing with the bow. If the bow was used for hunting, I'd tune with the exact same setup I was planning on using.

I must not be eating enough carrots. No way can I see an arrow flying close to 300 fps that's off 1/4" in flight.
But I get your point; you can tell a lot just by oberving the flight of the arrow.

Now, I will say that I believe paper tuning is a good starting point. Finish it up with a good session of walk-back tuning, as was described on here just a week or so ago, and then you'll be gettin' her dialed in.

Here's the link, fellas.

ButchA gives a great breakdown on page 2 of the thread. For those considering shooting mechs, I give some thoughts a couple responses below that.
