I agree with the 260 fps as an average. Anywhere between 250-270 is plenty fast for me.

My Allegiance is pumping out 305fps with my 381 grain ACC BUT, that is maxed out and I'll lower the poundage and hunt in the 285 fps range.

Rick, 260 is a fantastic range for a hunting bow.

I just chron'd my Hoyt Ultramag (65lbs@27") with Goldtip XT'sand 100 grain field points. It shot exactly 259-260 fps three times straight. I believe 260 fps is the max for ASA 3D bowhunter class so I would say 260is good performance.

ASA Max for men is 280 - 260 Womens hunter class and youth is 260 - under 9 yrs of age 220.

I prefer to shoot between 270 and 275 fps. My bow used to shoot 320 fps with my 3-d arrows, but I lowered it to 275 fps with my hunting arrows which have fixed blade broadheads. I also use a fixed pin sight and I don't like the narrow pin gap at the higher speeds. The fixed blade broadheads seem to tune easier at the lower 275 fps.

There's some smoking fast bows out there now a days for sure but i too like the 250-270 fps range. I'm strickly a hunter and my set-up's shooting a 28-1/2" 384gr Goldtip XT @ 270fps with a 30" drawmaxed out @ 62#. Perfect for me!

You'd laugh if I told you what my bow puts out.
I couldn't even tell you what mine is.... I have no idea.... I'm guessing somewhere over 150 and under 200........

Mine shoots 264 fps and that is plenty fast enough. Real, real quiet too.

There is realy no need for a hunting arrow to go faster than 270 f/s. If you shooting faster I think your better off to shot a heavier arrow and slow it down some and gain a bunch of KE. My hunting set up now is a 450 Grain Arrow going about 268-270 f/s.

Kinda like asking which bullet speed is best. Its all in shot placement. I kill hogs and deer with my slow recurves as well as my fast compounds.
