Great post, Atlas -- although I was impressed with the XT when I shot it, but then again I didn't shoot the original Switchback.
I'm sure there are a ton of guys who love the XT........I'm just not one of them. If the original Switchback was a lot faster I probably would have bought it I liked it so much.

I think you'd be extremely happy with the Equalizer. Don't worry; just go ahead and order the sucker!
I wish I could get myself to do that.......I'm just not that kind of guy. I need to KNOW I like it before I buy it. I am gonna call them and see if they will get one in.

I went through exactly what you are going through now. I tested them all. The Switchback, the Switchback XT, The Trykon, the Tribute and the Allegiance and ended up buying an Equalizer. The BC on my Equalizer says: 60lbs,27",297fps. There is no other bow even the Allegiance that can beat that at 27" draw length. The other thing that sold me on this bow is it only weighs 3.5 lbs vs over 4lbs for all the others. Even with a all my accessories its a joy to hold and carry. The ATA on the Equalizer with 60lb limbs is actually 32 14/16" so its actually longer than a Tribute and basically the same length as my last bow which was a 03 Patriot. The Equalizer does not have the interchangeable draw force modules ( the draw length is adjustable with modules though ) like the other Bowtechs. It uses the same binary cam as the Constitution. It falls somewhere between the speed mods and the smooth mods in terms of draw and valley. This Equalizer shoots so flat that I changed my original plans of mounting a 5 pin sight and now have only a 3 pin as my hunting sight. I find that at 10-15-20-25 yds that one pin does it all and with a 363 gr Goldtip XT 5575 it impacts only 6" lower at 30 yds using my top (20yd ) pin. As I already said this thing is way faster than my Patriot was. If you do some research here and at Archerytalk.com you will see that the Equalizer is turning out to be one of this years' surprises in sales. My dealer has already sold as many Equalizers as Tributes. If I had a longer draw I would likely shoot an Allegiance but there is nothing I can do about that so for me the Equalizer is the best choice.
Geez Terry..........I'm sure glad you read this post. Your situation is pretty much identical to mine. Thanks so much for the helpful info.

Any idea what kinda speed you are getting with that 363gr arrow?

Atlas,

The other thing is, which I forgot to mention, thee equalizer has smaller cams on it too. As far as it compares to the tribute, or allegiance, I think it's in those top 3 and depending on who you are you'd havea hard time distinguishing between the three. The equalizer isn't built for me cause i'm a guy of bigger frame. Sorry by the way, I wasn't trying to make you feel old or anything. I kinda got a chuckle out of that when I read it. But anyways, for a guy of smaller stature, as far as specs go on the bow I don't think it can be beat.
We aren't small either..........just have gator arms.

I love that analogy.........second only to T-Rex arms

I'm assuming you shot one with "Fast" mods? If it did have fast mods and you liked them that much boy would you LOVE the "Smooth" ones.[:-]
Forgot to mention..........all Bowtechs had fast mods in them.

I forget to be honest since I haven't had a 27" draw length since I was about 10yrs old.
Tough crowd.

Don't expect the exact same shot feel as the Allegiance all else equal.......the lower mass weight will directly affect vibration and recoil. Not saying there is much to talk about anyway but obviously the higher the mass weight the lower the recoil in the same geometry.
One of my concerns.........a smaller(lighter) bow pushing an arrow harder then the Allegiance?? If it has the same feel I am sold.

I also need to go weigh and check my Tribute vs my Allegiance?? I don't recall thinking either feels heavier than the other? That would be the last thing I would expect to hear if the 2 are set up the same?
The Tribute we shot felt like holding a 10 lb dumbell at arms length. We still don't know why. I wouldn't buy it anyways because it is slower then the Allegiance and both shot great.......couldn't tell a difference so may as well get the faster one IMO.

Thanks

Thanks Rob.

My brother has the Trykon on his brain.......bunch of guys in his 3D league have been brainwashing him about how great it is so that is the bow he was set on. I convinced him to come over and shoot the new Bowtechs with me........he almost bought the Allegiance right there.......I had to tell him to shoot the Trykon first...

I will wait for his report on the Trykon before I decide. We have similar tastes and if he says it is worth a shot I will go shoot it. I can say that if the speeds aren't near the Bowtechs I won't be interested. For me to pass on a chance to tickle 300fps at 27" draw 60 lbs would be crazy. Most bows won't do that at 30" 70 lbs.

I was all set for the XT to knock my socks off..........didn't even come close.........and what is with that string?? YUK!!!!!

Atlasman,
I have not had a chance to chrono it yet. I still have the Bowtech string silencers and a rubber tube style peep on it that the dealer installed both of which will be removed soon which will likely pick me up close to 10fps. I also have one of those new magnesium peeps on order that only weighs 2.5 grains that G5 just came out with. As for the Trykon I think you will find that while it shoots very nice I did not like the draw cycle at all. It seems when you get to the valley that it crashes into it and the whole bow shakes when you back into the wall. If you do a search you will see several others also comment on the same thing not just me. It was also the heaviest of the bunch. And also being cam specific on draw length was a deal breaker for me. There was a guy selling a brand new one over on archerytalk.com and I asked why he was selling it so quickly, his response was it was easier to sell it than get a different draw length cam switched. If you have only tried the Bowtechs with the speed module you really should test one with the smooth version, amazingly smooth !!!!!!! And I almost forgot, you realize that 06 Bowtechs have strings made of 452x right? Basically the Hoyt and Mathews need a decent string right off the bat which is an additional expenditure.

Thanks again..........I will be totally honest about my ignorance of strings.........I have no clue what makes a good string or what makes one bad. I know the string on the XT looks like crap and it felt very "bouncy" or "rubbery" and not the "stiff" feeling I get from my Winners Choice. Don't know if that makes sense or not.

I think the Trykon will be shot just for peace of mind........I will be shocked if I come home with one but you never know.

atlasman;
Simple solution is just to shoot it........I know........BUT. The shop owner is very worried that he will get stuck with the Equalizer if I don't buy it and is reluctant to order one due to this fear.
You might want to let your shop owner know that at the shop that I work at we have sold more 2006 Bowtech Equalizers to men than women... we arent haveing any problem selling them... the fella's with the shorter draw's are used to haveing to fight bows by shooting higher poundage to squeeze all the speed out of them that they can with their short draw lengths... and now they find they can shoot less poundage.... and gain speed and kinetic energy at the lower poundage... Whats Not To Like About That
I shoot the Bowtech Equalizer at 26 inch draw at 53.4 lbs shooting CXL2 250's and I am getting 267 FPS... keep in mind though that I have added 6 brass nocks and a bunch of other stuff to my string to slow the speed down on my bow for ASA Tournament Competition... the FPS Max is 260 so I will be slowing the bow down a few more FPS.
As for vibration I find the Equalizer to have more hand vibration than the Tribute or Allegiance.... I have been able to remove the hand shock with vibration dampening accesories that I added to the bow and the right stabilizer made a world of difference.

I believe that I would go with the Allegiance because that little extra length will help balance the bow. I went with a 34 and a half inch axel to axel and am very glad I did not go with somthing shorter. I think that it helps with the overall feel of the bow but of course this is just an opinion but I think I would go with the allegiance.

I thought about that and can't really see 1" making that much difference. Someone has already said here that the Equalizer measures 32 14/16" ATA........the ALlegiance is 34" (roughly). Plus, I shot the Tribute which is even shorter and I had no problems holding it steady.

I will not be upset at all if I end up with an Allegiance..........but if an Equalizer will zip arrows faster and perform as well in other areas I am gonna grab it.
