they're allowed to do whatever they want. it would be nice if they would allow some land to be used for public use and such but that wouldn't turn as much of a profit as leasing it all. it's all about the money in most cases and it's all up to them.

Not very fond of today's "American Way". By the way, could someone define that for me? I believe if we truly still lived by the "old school" American way, alot of us would hunt and kill more deer than we do today. I remember as a kid growing up we sometimes would have 6 hunters with six different deer in the smokehouse at one time. That don't happen much today unless you have the $$$ to pay for it. Their was a post on here shortly ago where most were stressing strong opinions about fenced land. Well if you are not part of a hunting club around here leased by a timber company, then your land is fenced by a hunting club. I have a small 40 acre tract of good hunting ground, been in the family for years. Hunting club has 3000 acres surrounding us and guess where they put their stands. Yeah, on every corner and down each boundary line of our land. I HATE IT.

Hey tomkat, do you let anybody and everybody hunt on your land or do you keep it to yourself? I say we all head down to tomkat's place this fall for a free bowhunt! Surely he lets anyone hunt there for free. It should be a good time for all.

What would you do if you had ONLY 40 acres? I mean we are comparing thousands and thousands of acres to 40. I would let any respectable person hunt my land as long as they didn't trash up the place and break laws. Not an issue with who or how many, the issue is I would never charge someone to hunt my land. Only a fool says never. What if I offered you $5000 to lease it this upcoming season? You turning that down?

I wouldn't take a cent of your money for hunting my land. I would lease it for oil company to drill but thats about it. I just don't believe in paying to hunt. Just not my way. Nor do I believe it was ever intended to be the way. LT

That's why they call it a "belief". It's nothing more than an opinion. Good day sir.

That's all I was looking for to begin with was opinions Shadowace. I know an archery forum can't change the world. I am not that naive. I was just curious about other's opinions and stating my own thats all. LT

RE: Should Timber Companies Be Allowed To Lease All Their Land?

La.Tomkat,I know what you are saying, I to grew up inLa. prior to the lumber companies leasing there land tohunting club's. That is why it was known as Hunter's Paradise. The problem is not with the lumber companies, but with the state of La. I live in Kansas now and they had the same problem when I moved here back in the early 90's mostall the land was privatly owned.Kansas decided that they were goingstartthere out of state hunting program and the land owners were going to make a killing onout of state hunter's. There wasn't going to bemuch land left for the regular tax payers to hunt on, so the state started a walk in hunting program and started leasing land from the the farmers with the money spent on hunting lic.'s. At first it sucked but after about three years the quality of the land leased got better and it has continue to get much better now. Between public hunting landand walk in land you now have a pretty nice hunting for the regular guy with outhaving to belong to a hunting club or lease. You might check with the Wild life Dept. and see if something like what Kansas did might workthere too.You might go to the the Kansas Wild Life Dept. web site and check outthe walk in hunt program.I know what you are going through. Good Luck

La.TomKat, If you buy a hunting lic. and pay taxesyou are paying to hunt. The state needs to provide a better plan for tax payers andfolks who buy the hunting lic.'s. I to feelyou should not have to belong to some private club or a lease to have good quality land to hunt on.
