What to Look For?
#1
I live in and around some small towns and would like to know what to look for around these areas to find small spots of land to bow hunt on. Most all of the other land around here is leased and I can't afford membership dues. I know their are deer in alot of these suburban spots but I have never been too keen on getting permission to hunt them or for that matter knowing who owns them. How do you guys find out who owns land like this besides word of mouth and how to go about getting permission to hunt on it.
Thanks,
LT

1 little trick that has worked for me is post a flyer @ grocerie store message board.
DEER PROBLEMS ? MAYBE WE CAN HELP.
with your phone # cut into slits at the bottom.
I've found that alot of folks don't like what deer do their landscaping. Good Luck

Most any property owner can be tracked down at the county tax collectors office. You need to know the address of the property. From there you could try writing a letter of introduction to the property owner and ask permission to hunt, although I believe asking in person will give you better results. Also try offering to do some work on the place such as clearing deadfalls or fencelines. Anything that may get the property owner thinking there is a benefit for him or her to grant permission. Good luck and be prepared to have to be persistant. you may have 25 people or more say no before 1 says yes. Oh yeah, have a list of references ready to offer, and when asking in person remember that 1st impressions are so important! Don't go looking like a slob! You want the property owner to know that you are responsible and will take good care of the place. If you don't look like you take care of yourself they won't believe you'll take care of thier property. Good luck.

check the county records and then talk to the man in a helpful way and tell him you will do whatever work that needs to be done to the property for free and if you know the taxes wont be that much offer to pay the taxes on the land
P.S. Food always works well to get him to let ya
