how many pins?
#4
I have 3 pins on mine (20, 30, 40).
I would only use 2 (20, 30), but the Cobra sight that I like to use is a pain to take the pins out of, so I just left 'em in.
I wouldn't bother with a 10 yard pinunless you are shooting way under 200fps. IF you're over 220fps, I think 1 or 2 works just fine.
I can see why hard-corecompetitive shooters want more pins, but I shoot 3-d for hunting practice, and I want the same setup I have for hunting.

I had a 3 pin sight for a long time and just ran with that, but now that I've got into shooting a lot more and wanted to have pins available for practice shooting. I went with a 5 pin. 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 yards The 50 and 60 yard pins are purely for long range practice shooting. I would suggest going with a 5 pin for the reason above.
Good Luck.

It depends on your "maximum effective range" for bowhunting. If you're not going to be taking shots beyond 30 yards, why have more pins in there to distract you? I use 3 for hunting, 20, 30 and 40. Even though my maximum effective range (where I can keep 100% of my broadheads in an 8" circle) is 60 yards, I have made a conscientious choice not to ever take a shot more than 40 yards, and only then if conditions are absolutely perfect (broadside, unaware animal with clear open cover and no wind).
For 3-D shooting you're into a totally different scenario if you're going to be competetive. I've been at tournaments with shots at a Sasquatch at 80 yards, the extra pins definitely come in handy then.

I shoot 1 (25yrds) pin only. I like to see a clear picture of what I'm shooting at. when I started out I was shooting 4 pins but I have change it for 5 years now and love the1 pin deal. All the deers I shot at was no farther than 30 yards. One thing about shooting the 1 pin is that you have to practice alot and get to know your distance but that is what a good bow hunter should know, THE DISTANCE!!!
