I love my climber for staging areas in open woodlands, and for setting up on escape routes during gun season. But...I'd also make sure I had one or two good hang on's for close to bedding areas that are set up ahead of time. Where I shot my buck last weekend, its too thick to go in with a climber, find a straight tree that allows good visibility, and to set up quietly enough to not alert deer that might be bedded less than 100 yds away - no way!.

I probably make a little more noise with my climber than I should but I think the key is going in early and allowing enought time for things to settle down. If I'm hunting in the morning I'll go in well before sunrise (assuming I can drag my butt out of bed). And when I hunt in the evening, if I know deer are moving around 5 or 6 then I'll get set up around 3 or so.

I bought a new climber, a cheap Walmart brand (three kids=no cash) and then modified the climbing teeth. I was really noisy opening morning and had a hard time getting set up. I finally started climbing and was up about 8 feet when I felt something watching me. There was a very nice wide 3x3 watching me not 12 yards away. My bow was still on the ground. I started pulling up my bow, got it, unhooked it, took an arrow out of the quiver, nocked it, and then just as I was about at full draw the limb hit the metal on the stand and he lit out. Deer are curious.

I have a summit cobra. it has the snake cable, and is fairly quiet climbin a tree. IMO- the best stands for quietness are the hang-ons.
you can slip in and climb your ladder without makin a sound. I have three of those i leave in the same places year round. their around acorn trees in funnels. I use my cobra for sneakin in on hot spots like scrapes, fresh rublines etc.
IMO- the quitest climbers on the market are the summits, the API, and the old man.

IMHO the loudest part of using my climber (Summit Viper) is attaching it to the tree. My cable has lost about 40% of the rubber coating on it and makes some metal-2-metal sound when sliding it into the frame. After that, its up the tree quiet as a church mouse.

I think any metal to metal noise may carry fairly far in the woods. But the sound of scurrying up a tree does not travel far at all.

They are noisy, more trouble than they are worth, unsafe, tear up trees, etc, etc.

I don't have one and don't want one. Stupidest thing they ever made for hunting my opinion.

About 95% of the deer I've killed was from a climber. I have a really nice box stand that I built to take my 7 year old son hunting in but if he's not with me I'll be in the climber.
