This may not be the right place for this question but here goes. I've got a hand winch and cable and I'm planning on using it to make a hoist. I'm going to mount the winch to one of the supports in the shop and route the cable to a ceiling beam/rafter. I need 2 pulleys but I'm having a problem finding the right kind of pulley to mount directly to these posts. Any pics or advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

If your rafter is open on top, just use some chain and one of the pulleys with the hook on the end for the first pully, and same for the bottom. That's pretty much what we do at our place.

I bought a cheap 1000 lb winch and attached it to the wall between the studs (in the garage). I ran the steel cable up to a pulley I suspended from a length of 2X12 that I placed above the rafters to span 5 of them, spreading the load. The pulley was just one I selected on a trip to the hardware store. Take a look at the ones there and pick what looks like a good, strong one. Mine will support 1000 lbs and MOST of my deer don't weigh more than that!
