We didn't use this exact model but they worked wonders. We just cut between the leg bones in each rear leg, put the metal piece in the slits in the legs and just hoisted her up. So easy a caveman could do it.

We always just hang ours from the rafters in our barn, but it looks like it would work good. as long as it has a good solid construction it would probably be a good buy.

I have been using one for over 10 years, but I built mine. The one I use even has a scale.

Here it is in the background of this picture.

There is a guy selling those on ebay a little cheaper right now. I've been debating buying one of the ones that fits into the receiver hitch on a pickup.

Here is a model that attaches to a tree - Tree Mount Game Hoist

Here is a model that goes in your receiver hitch - Receiver Hitch Game Hoist

At those prices it would be hard to buy the materials to build one yourself for any less. You might could build a little sturdier verison (one of those shows to only have a 300lb rating) but you could probably beef up either of those with a little extra welding pretty easily.
