RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

To: ESPN & THE OUTDOOR CHANNEL
This is a petition to have Jimmy Houston removed from any and all tv networks. After seeing the video of his hunt in Indiana at the Russ Bellar farm where they turned a captive bred deer loose in a small 3 acher pen and watched the deer bounce off the fence until it was to tired to run any more and then shot placed in a open field and pictures taken so it looked like a fair chase hunt. This man if you can call him one was a role model to thousands of kids and adults and yet after this disgusting display ESPN & the OUTDOOR channel are still showing his programs.this is not just for hunters and outdoorsmen but for everyone. The farm this all took place on drugged deer then turned them loose in a small pen or placed food under trees in this small pen so the people would be able to shot them with no trouble.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
Well I didnt see the show and I find it hard to believe the producers actually let a show that states all of the above taking place actually air on video, TV or what have you wether hid did go on a hunt like this or not. Not enough evidence for me to sign anything like this. The person that made this petition should have spell checked also before making that a public petition lol.

And, I dont condone that type of hunting. Im shocked someonein his position actually even participated in something like that if he indeed did.

He shot a drugged preshot deer over bait in a pend (sp) in area area and it is just a disgrace

Personally, I don't buy it. I've met Jimmy twice at outdoor's conventions...great guy to say the least. If he did do it, he was probably drunk (I've personally smelled booze on him after a spinnerbait seminar) or wanting to get done with the hunt to get drunk (j/k...kinda').

Yea, he did it. The video was never on the air. It's part of the evidence against the bellar farm.

He did, and theres a link posted in this thread where you can watch it. The evidence was strong enough that the ranch where it took place was shut down and the owner convicted.

I dont' know about any of it and don't want to. But, is this the right place for a petition?

i think so buckhunter, but i'm not a mod. justin could answer that. i'm one of those that think bowhunters need to take the forefront in regulating our love - instead of letting others do it - and i think we need to show that we won't stand for this type of thing.

ialso wish a better petition was written.

Wow, I thought I had seen everything, but always something else to shock me again, but each to his own. I'm so glad that my outfit is fair chase.

I wish he wouldn't have done that---------I truely respected that guy until now. I wonder how many other hunting personalities do the same thing, and just were never revealed..............It puts all hunters in a bad light.........more ammo for the anti's.

RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

I might have to watch the video again. When I looked at it, I saw Jimmy in a stand with a bow in his hand. I didn't notice him taking a shot.I'm not about to sign some petition as a knee jerk reaction.

I wonder how many other TV 'sportsmen' have gotten themselves in situations like that, getting invited to come filma 30-minute infomercialin similar circumstances to advertise the 'ranch'. Surely you guys don't think Jimmy is the only one!?! Might as well expand this petition to include all hunting shows that are advertising for a specific ranch/resort.

I'm not signing either--that's not for me to decide

D.Parsons 02-03-2006 06:13 AM

RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

Sure he is not the only one!! I made a comment in another post,
Before the topic was pulled for taking cheap shots at outfitters,
there are a lot of these tv shows that are not doing, so called ethical
things, that we do not know about if there was a way to do some
research!! Don't agree about advertizing about a ranch. Thisdoes not mean there is funny stuff going on there Come on!!

Campo 02-03-2006 06:21 AM

RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

Signed.....only wished I could have signed it in blood.
And regarding all this "He didnt know about it BS" it is as simple as this....
As a true ambassador of the hunting and fishing worlds, if he was a true outdoorsman, he would have climbed out of the stand, cursing and screaming all the way, and got in his car, left, and aired a show about the hunt and how he feels that it is a crying shame and an insult to bowhunting....
I didnt see that episode, did you?[:@]

I think Jimmy should stick to fishing.:D

LOL. Stick to fishing? I agree with you, since he's disgraced the sport of bowhunting, it's a good idea- but i'll predict how that would turn out (judging from past character trials):

He would get bored with fishing, so he'd try his hand at bowfishing. (we've seen how good he is with a bow- in a cage!) When he realized it was more difficult than he first thought to bag a trophy fish, he would find a "fish farm"where they put huge fish in a 5-gallon bucket. He would then proceed to "stalk" these fish and bust one with his bow- just as the camera caught all the action. Then the rest of us could watch his difficult hunt on t.v. and admire his hard work and perserverance.

What a load of crap. How do some people sleep at night?

chucker34 02-03-2006 09:18 AM

RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

Is any action being taken against him or could there be? Don't know the specifics. Did he break any laws or was he just guilty of being an unethical hunter. He should be made to pay in some way, even if it simply means not having a career in hunting or fishing again.

Babe Winkelman had to settle on a plea agreement and write a column on hunting ethics for allegedly radioing to his wife he would drive deer toward her. Minnesota doesn't allow radio communications in taking deer. That makes Babe look like a saint compared to Jimmy.

Xtremebone 02-03-2006 09:32 AM

RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

It is a shame that stuff happens all the time. Why would Jimmy be in there with a bow in hand if he was not going to pull the triger. I have no problem with any type of hunting. I do not hunt like that myself. But if I did and I had a TV show I would let my viewers know what was really going on. That is the part that is so shady for a pro to do that to fans.

RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

This is from an article on the Federal Wildlife Officers Assn website.

Bellar pleaded guilty to three of the charges on January 12, 2005, a day after the government had rested its case and before a jury began its deliberations. More than 50 witnesses testified against Bellar during the seven day trial, including personalities Jimmy Houston, host of the television show "Jimmy Houston Outdoors," country musician Ronnie Dunn, and Fox Sports Net South television host Joey Mines.
I'm not defending Jimmy Houston at all, because he did something completely stupid. (Frankly, I thought he was screwing up bigtime when hestarted branching out into hunting anyway!)But he's not the only celebrity that participated in this farce. Sign the petition if you want, but you also need to burn your Brooks and Dunn tapes and get Joey Mines fired from Fox if you do. Remember though, it was their testimony that helped put this Bellar outfit out of business and called a lot of negative attention to these so-called deer farms.

Im appalled. There is a law being broken here. You cannot hunt over bait here in Indiana. Thats the law. I dont think outfitters can do it either. They are not above the law.

RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

Because they were subpoenaed by law. It's not like they were leading the charge to bring Bellar down. The fact that he was in a position where he had to testify is disturbing.

RE: JIMMY HOUSTON PETITION

ok so everyone know i am the guy that started the petition, i have recieved a few e-mails from people telling me about some spelling mistakes in the main body of the petition. i hit the wrong button while previewing the petition and could not go back and fix the mistakes, i am working on trying to get back into the main body and fix the mistakes, i do not know if i can or not,but do not let that stop you from signing it, the wording and spelling will not matter to the people it will be sent to. what will matter is the words you are all putting in and the names on it.

If anyone wants to talk to me about this please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

i have sent some e-mails to some of his sponsors and as of now i have heard back from 3 of them.

i got one from mothwing camo this morning asking me for my phone # so Jimmy can call me himself and explain every thing that happened to me. so i sent them my phone #

i have yet to hear back from anyone at mothwing or Jimmy

thanks Jim

I've fished behind Jimmy in some BASS touraments.... of course stayed behind 50 yds like the rules say. Each time I caught a fish behind him, I would hold the fish up and yell "Hey Jimmy, you missed one!" Then I would laugh real loud like he does, then I would kiss it in the mouth before putting it into my live well... :D:D

I can't stand that little runt... Of course this was before I was a preacher..:D:D:D:D

I can not believe anybody sticking up for Jmmy after seeing that video. What was he doing in the tree with his bow with a nocked arrow? Posing for a picture? If he did not shoot it, well then he really sucks. The guy could not get a shot at a deer in a 3 acre pin? I have signed and will start my own. I have contacted the DNR here in MI. WE SHOULD PUT A STOP TO ALL FENCED IN CANNED HUNTS!!!!!!! WE AS HUNTERS SHOULD BE THE ONES TO STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are we conservationalist or not?
