Hey guys,
Today my buddy and I were at the pro-shop for a screen shoot and decided to see how the speed of his Switchback compared to the speed of my Allegiance. Here are our set-ups.
Mine-- 2005 BowTech Allegiance, 30" draw length, 61# draw weight (70# max limbs back down), 28.5" Gold Tip XT 55/75's tipped with 100 grain field points, 3-4" Duravanes and EZE Crest Wraps. Total weight is 388 grains.
His--- 2005 Mathews Switchback, 30" draw length, 71# draw weight(70# max limbs maxed out), 29" Gold Tip XT 55/75's tipped with 100 grain field points, 3-4" Duravanes and EZE Crest Wraps. Total weight is 392 grains.
Both bows have a single brass nock on the string and a tied in Fletcher Tru Peep. Both bows have the STS system on them. My Allegiance has the factory strings and his Switchback has Winners Choice strings (installed two weeks ago).
We shot our bows and I was dumb-founded and shocked. These are the speeds we got....
My Allegiance.. 271.9 f.p.s., 272.4 f.p.s., and 274.3 f.p.s.
His Switchback.. 261.1 f.p.s., 262.9 f.p.s. and 263.2 f.p.s.
How does this work? My bow has a 12 f.p.s. faster IBO Speed, but our arrow weight is pretty dang near the same, our set-ups are pretty much identical, but my bow is shooting 10 f.p.s. faster than his with ten pounds less draw weight. This would mean that his S-Back would have an IBO speed somewhere of 285 f.p.s.

The only thing we can think of is that maybe the guy at the pro-shop who replaced his strings backed his draw weight the whole way down and never cranked it back up, but he said the bow feels exactly the same while drawing. We didn't have time to put his bow on the scale this time, but when we checked before he got his strings put on it was right at 71#.
I just found this very odd.
