when is it time to beggin afternoon hunt?
I usually get in my stand about 3 or 330 for my afternoon hunt. I get out at dark when it is to dark to see. Is this to late to get into my stand? 330?. What time do you suggest. Because i was always told during the afternoon like 11-2 or something you really have no chance of seeing or takeing deer. Is this true? Could you let me know what time you all make your way to your stands in the afternoon. And in the morning.

About 1-1:30 for me. In 12yrs. I've only sat from dark-dark twice. I did get down out of the stand and snooze at the base of the tree for a bit on each occasion. It's hard to sit that long...especially if it's cold.

My rule of thumb is the last 2 to 2 1/2 hours of each day. Sunset changes quite abit over the coarse of a season.
Deer activity during the day. Absolutley! The last few days in central Minnesota I've been seeing tons of deer out between 10 am and 1 pm. Thats not the norm, but its enough that I'm going out tom. at about 9:30 am.
Good Luck!

I usually try to get to my stand about three hours before sundown, moreso because that's about all the ol' rumpus can take. And, I really have never had much luck until about the last hour or so on my evening hunts, so for me, I think this is puh-lenty early enough.
Now, if the rut was in full swing, that's a different story... I may be out there four or five hours before sundown.
Discipline -- not desire -- determines destiny.

I get to the stand about 6:00.....AM that is, leave after dark. I see quite a few deer during the day. Just can't wait until gun season opens so the gun hunters will move the deer when they go home for lunch!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
I keep myself busy in the stand during the day by looking for deer, works pretty well.

The afternoon hunt starts at 12:01 pm silly. Duh, I mean afternoon is like short for after noon.
Just kidding. I'm convinced that deer can be found at any time of day but like you I just don't have the attention span to sit all day (not to mention my back won't allow me to stay in a stand that long. Now, during the early season I usually hunt till 10 or 11 then get back in my stand around 4. As the weather gets colder and the rut nears though I'll force myself to spend more time in stand because daytime activity will increase tremendously.
