That's what is all about. I hate to say it but sometimes deer are smarter than people. The hunt, trying to outsmart the deer on his terms is what I find so exciting. Think of it this way, if you would have stayed in your stand and the deer went the other way, you may not have seen them at all. At least you know they are there and it shouldn't be hard to stay until after dark knowing they could walk out of the woods at any moment. Good luck!

LOL as others have already said that was a sad, but FUNNY story, I already had something similar happen to me this year, but not of the magnitude you had, got to dark to see the pins, stand up to pack up, hear this huge crashing through the woods right behind me!

Straightarrow is right, deer always appear at the time your least prepared. You want to see a big buck, stand up in your stand and scratch your butt, you'll see the big bucks butt disappearing in the distance. Your tired in the stand and decide to quit early and every deer in the woods will appear magically between the climb down from the tree and your vehicle. And then, one day, everything works and you get a deer. I'm ready for that day.
