Waiting never hurts, but I would have at least looked the first few yards to get an idea of what kind of blood I had and to see if I could find the arrow, it may have been a heck of a blood trail and you could have went ahead and recovered your deer.

You absolutley did the right thing!!!! In the morning you should have a fairly easy tracking job. If you can't find it in the morning you absolutley wouldn't have gotten it last night. It'll be fine.....good luck in the morning!

Well guys I gave it my best but I came up empty. I searched all day long until I was so tired I could hardly walk. I searched by arch, I searched by grid still no luck. I looked in every creek bottom and briar patch within 800 yards. I even use the toilet paper to mark the last point of sign and crawled through the thick stuff on my hands and knees. Even brought my dog with me in the chance that she would sniff the deer out. Bad way to spend a day of vacation. It has been cool here this week and I am hoping I may run across it tomorrow when I go back out and do so more searching. Thanks for the prayers and the encouragement!! Much appreciated.

Tough luck, but sounds like you gave it a great effort. I had some bad luck opening day. I hit a decent buck, but my arrow rest broke at the shot. I found the deer a week later, mostly by smell. he was withing 250 yards of where I shot. Not much left of him, but I did manage to salvage the antlers, but it doesn't really help, it's a bad way to end a hunt. The main thing is that we strive for the best shot, and do our very best to recover the aniamls we hit.
