Default One BAD Day

Got up at 6am this morning and headed out to my hunting buddies property. The leaves were really wet this morning so we decided to sneak around on logging roads together and see what happens...

8am we sneak around a bend on a brushy logging road and catch a deer in the brush. The deer steps out into some thin brush to reveal a small 4pt. My buddy shoots and misses the small buck. We couldn't find his arrow. So we decide to continue on this logging road.

8:35am we sneak into a open acron flat. two does are feeding so I decide it's my turn to shoot. I let a arrow fly from the high country and my arrow nails the doe in the back similar to yesterday's doe. She humps up and starts walking with my arrow hanging out of her back. As she rounds the path my arrow falls out. I walk up the hill to where I hit her to reveal a small tree about as thick as two fingers was hit first causing the poor shot. So we sit down at the tree and look around at the blood. We give her about 35minutes and decide to sneak around tracking her. We start around the path to reveal her standing about 40yrds away still humped up like she was after the shot. Lots of blood on her back but she was not laying down. I nock a arrow for a second shot but she begins to limp away. We gave her another 15-20minutes and begin the track. But only to find she crossed a small stream that runs off the hill. We couldn't find anymore blood across the creek. don't know where she went? so pissed off and disgusted we returned to the logging road and decided to complete the circle back to the truck.

9:50am we find a small doe feeding around the corner of a field. My hunting buddy takes a 20yrd shot and drills her behind the shoulder. She high kicks and takes off. We retrieve his arrow and sit down to wait. Suddenly two more deer come trotting up the trail. The two deer trott to within 15yrds and stop. We both come to full draw on the two deer. Only one could be seen. I only had a shot at her hips and guts so I said take her. He could only see her head and neck and he missed her neck by no more then a inch. The two deer leave.

10:30pm we quit looking for the arrow he launched at the second doe and begin tracking the deer he hit. Nap 125gr. Shockwave cuts a nice hole with plenty of blood. After about 150yrds of tracking we find two beds the deer made. lots of bright red blood. We cross another stream at the bottom of the holler to jump the small doe. she runs out around the hill and falls. So we stand there and watch for her. She gets back to her feet about 60yrds infront of us and takes off again. So we sit down and wait again. After giving the deer 25 more minutes we start tracking again. Lots of blood for about 75yrds then no blood??? We start zig zagging up and down the hill for about 50-100yrds. No deer, no blood. We don't know what the hell happened?

But needless to say, a very disappointing day. This morning definetly sucked. My buddy is going to hunt out of my climber next to where I took the doe yesterday. I on the other hand have to pick up another hunting buddy to hunt with the rest of the week.

What happened to waiting on a poor shot deer, Give her a few hours she is dead. I would go back and look for her she is down. you zig zagged for about 50 to 100 yds and you think that was enough of a search??????

How can you continue to hunt when you have a wounded deer out there

With two deer hit Why would you take a neck shot at a third?????

What happened to the one "drilled behind the shoulder"

This is a Joke right??????

I'm with Rack Attack I hope that this is a joke.
If not this is the kind of crap that gives all of us a bad...sounds like you just walked through the woods slinging arrows in every direction.
Also in West Virginia you can't kill more than 1 deer a day, so if your buddy "drilled one right behind the shoulder" what the H*** is he shooting at another deer?
Read your post again and I think you will realize just how BAD it sounds.

I've been told that if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. So..............

I have read this forum and these topics for quite some time. I have learned a great deal of solid information from my fellow archers out there. I have incorporated a lot of those techniques into my own bowhunting strategies. I have never felt the need to respond up until this story. If "antis" had but one topic to choose from to use as ammunition against hunting this would be it.
My only words in response would be an example of my last bowhunting dilemma. After not finding a doe in the evening I returned to hunt the next morning. I had several opportunities to "take" more animals but passed on all of them. Why? I had a responsibility to find the one I had not found and give it fair chase. I owe that to the animal and the respectability of those in and out of the sport.

I'm going to pretend I didn't read this post...................................
I can't do it..What the hell is wrong with you?!
If you you dont have any more respect than that for the game you are hunting...DONT HUNT! You shoot a deer, you spend the rest of the day(and the next day if need be) recovering that deer!!!! You just put a serious dent in your local deer herd and for what? I am very disappointed in you HighCountry, very disappointed!
