Looks like the gene pool could use a little

3 years ago, I had a turkey hunter blow my jake decoy off the pole, nearly spraying me in the process. Seriously, who can't tell the difference between a foam turkey and a real one??

This year, I saw some idiot with a loaded gun in full camo (illegal)riding (also illegal)up and down powerlines and logging roadson the Allegheny National Forest, on an ATV. I had seen 2 doe crossing down low, and was waiting for them to come up the hill to me.He spooked them, and they doubled back across the line - he tried to get a shot from the quad (very illegal), but fortunate for him, hewas unable. Then, he sat there for a while, looking around, and saw me atop the ridge in my treestand. He scoped me for a minute and left. I had an insatiable urge to run a .300 weatherby ball through the engine block of his quad. Seriously, who scopes people? I really wish he'd have gotten that deer - I'd have taken his ATV plate # and backtag #. That was the only hunter Isaw in 2 days of hunting the ANF.

Several years back on a gamelands inFayette Co., some mental midget blasted at afawn button buckthat was five yards away from the base of the tree I was sitting in. Quite a harrowing experience that was. If I wasn't hanging from the backside of my tree, I'd have considered returning fire. The sad thing is that I was only hunting an antlerless deer, and I let it go, waiting for a heftier doe.

I think the biggest problem in PA is the sheer number of hunters afield at one time. When you jam that many hunters into a small area, you're bound to have incident. Also, a lot of PA guys only hunt for 4-5 hours/year on the opener, so they don't have much "hunt" in 'em. They just wanna get out there, whale on a doe, and get home. They're out-of-practice, terrible marksmen, out of shape, ignorant, etc.

Some people are just a little "special," I guess.

I might have you beat Rob.....not that I am proud of that or anything. My neighbor, Eric, was hunting close to home on opening day this year and was fortunate enough to shoot a nice doe about 60 yards from his stand. The deer stumbled a bit and then fell down over a log out of sight of my neighbor. As it did he heard two shots in quick succession from a hunter he knew was about 100 yards away in a treestand.

Ericwent to the spot where he saw the deer fall over the log and found plenty of blood and drag marks. As he visually followed the drag marks he saw the other hunter running with the doe towards his stand.Eric started after him and began calling "Hey Buddy"..."Hey Buddy". Only when the guy reached his stand did he drop the deer and turn back towards my neighbor. He "innocently" asked whatEric wanted and my neighbor laid into him for shooting a downed deer. The "hunter" stated that he still saw it kicking so he thought he would finish it off.

In the end my neighbor let him have the doe as he had already filled one of his tags back in archery but, boy, was he ticked.

Wow, I'm sure glad to live in Missouri and hunt where I hunt. I see people every so often during the season but they are always very courteous and share stories and tips most of the time. When I have a deer shot by someone else, 5 yds from my tree that's when I decide that its probably not a good idea to go in the woods during gun season.[:-]

Quik, I know what that feels like, and itabsolutely infuriates me. I had a 16 year old kid"sight"me in WV about 5 years ago. He walked up on me, and stopped about 50 yards away, raised the gun, (an open sighted 30-30)and pointed it right at me. I was standing there, munching on a samich, and it scared the hel out of me to see him do that.I was literally petrified. I heard him mutter "bang" in a soft voice, then he walked to me to start up a conversation. When he got within arms reach of me to chat, I snatched his gun from him, ejected all the shells into the mud,and sent it fora 30 yard, end over end ridethrough the woods. I recognized him as the landowner's nephew, and we exchanged a few hostile words and he left after picking up his gun and shells. A day or 2 later, I saw the landowner at a local convienience store, and he apologized for his nephews actions. Turns out the boy had a bad habit of doing that, and he wasen't allowed to hunt the property anymore.

OMG.... Out of all the bad scenarios, horror stories, run-ins, etc... this one takes the cake!!! Wait, this deserves thejaw drop smilie....

I have never heard of someone EVER doing something as stupid as pointing a firearm at another hunter! ....saying "bang" while they have you in their sights!!!! OMG... I would have gone ballistic... That kid wouldn't have a 30-30 anymore. I would have knocked him upside the head with it, then bash it to pieces against a rock! [:@]

I always look forward to bowhunting in the peace and quiet. Rifle season is great when you can escape the crowds (and the stupid deer dogs!) by hunting mid-week. Weekends? I won't even bother with the public land WMA's. It's too packed on a Saturday and is like a sea of blaze orange!

Here's what I use during the full hunting season.

Weapon..............Season
BowArchery
BowMuzzleloader
Shotgun/Rifle*General Firearms
BowLate Archery

*either/or... depending on whatever county I am in and the ordinances.

Sounds like NY. The scum are breeding like flies. This past week three deer were shot from the road after 9 PM. It is not even shotgun/rifle season anymore.
