Best/easiest way to sharpen broadheads
I have some Magnus 100 broadheads that need to be sharpened up because iI don't think they are sharp enough out of the package. I have tried a coouple of the little drag across the carbide type sharpeners, but they don't put a very fine edge on them. What do you use to touch up your heads?

I used the Nugent blades before and I used a sharpener that Nugent sells on his website to sharpen the blades. It worked well on the Nugent blades as well as my Muzzys this year.

Mike, they are not sharp enough out of the package. Here is what I use:
1. You have to get a better angle on the blade then what is out of the package. The angle supplied is too steep. Then best way to accomplish this and it only needs to be done once is to use a s-24 file.

2. Use a s-24 coarse hone

3. Use a s-24 fine hone and then a leather strop:http://www.bowsite2.com/acb/showdetl...=2916&CATID=70

After you have your head in good shape, you will only need to repeat step 3 for a great point.
That is what I use anyway, and it has worked well for me. I can get the heads to shave hair no problem. I tried using one of those hand held sharpening devices, however, they never were very consistant.

I use the Redi-edge sharpner. You can buy it at cabelas. It takes about 20 strokes on each blade to get the heads sharp the first time. Then just a few strokes will touch up the blades quickly. I also use a piece of leather to "strope" the blades to shaving sharp edge. It also makes a great knife sharpner, and does a good job of getting rocket blades sharp.

Yup, that should work. But I would suggest before you buy it to make sure that it is using a common angle that is used on sharpeners just in case you find that it is too course or fine. It looks like a ds-24, but I'm not sure. Here is the same kit that you are looking at in a ds-24.
