That's right ,if your not sure of your shot ,you just don't shoot plain and simple .Sure we have some completely stupid idiot's who just like to ruin thing's for everyone .Obviously the dog was close enough to take the shot ,so they should have realized that it was a dog to begin with ,retriever or not , mistake'slike this are just inexcusable.

Who said it was a mistake? I bet it wasn't.. Pretty hard to mistake a deer from a dog.. But then again, alot easier than some of these people who mistake Humans for deer, I mean... Come on.. Really???? I just dont understand how someone can mistake something else for a deer.. Trigger happy apple knocker and cherry pickers.. thats the problem.. Lazy bums who just want to shoot a DEER so they can call themselve a Hunter/Man.. No offense ladies..

Whoever shot it probably did it on purpose. If it was the ladies property there is no way he/she should of shot it. I've had to shot dogs myself that were running deer constantly on our lease. We had some neighbors that refused to lock their dogs up even after being told several times that they needed to lock them up because they were running all around the area and running deer day and night. They would roam for several miles and kill whatever they could catch and leave it lay there. The people said that they had the right to let their dogs run loose and that they would not lock them up. After two were shot they finally locked the other ones up. We never shot any without first warning the owners if we could find them and most owners would keep their dogs locked up after you talked to them.

Guy's it was a golden retriever, as the lady told the storie the dog entered
the brush and no more than a minute later the dog was squeillin, so it wasn't runnin deer. I'm not sure, but it sounded like they were on her property or on the line. They showed the dog and NO,NO, WAY IT COULD BE A MISTAKE!

I'm with Mathewsboy. I own 2 dogs and have always owned dogs and they're part of my family. Therefore, I keep them fenced in and don't let them run loose, out of concern for them and respect for my neighbors. If the dog was in his property they no way should have shot it. But if it was out of the owners property, sounds like the owner better fix their fence. I've never shot a dog and it would be hard to do but I've sure been tempted when they are running loose in the woods. No excuse for people letting their dogs run loose on property other than their own.

I have been told by the couple that own my hunting spot, that if I see the neighbors 3 dogs, to shoot them. And I know they mean it, becouse they have shot one of them. They have tied them up before when they catch them on their land, and called the neighbor guy up to come and get them. They have called the sherriff before, and he has come out and warned them. He just doesnt get it. Thes dogs are no little house pets either, all 3 of them are big old mean dogs. I was attacked by a dog big time when I was about 10, just about ripped my entire face right off. I will NOT have a problem flinging an arrow at one of them if they come by me stand.
