Default practicing out of treestand

The man teaching at our bowhunters saftey course this year said to shoot at gallon milk jugs from a tree stand. He told us to throw them out in different directions and distances.I can see his point in that a milk jug is about the size of a deers vitals. My question is will I break my carbon arrows shooting them into the ground?Should I fill the jugs with something that will slow the arrows down? That's if I can hit them or not. What do you guys shoot at,when you are practicing? Thanks for any help.I just bought a dozen arrows and have already ruined 1.I'm anything but rich, these arrows cost about 7 each.

3d targets. they're around 100.00 or so with the vitals outlined. would save money in the long run and more realistic.

go to your nearest KMART they have a 3d deer for about $45.00 this is the type that has the replacable vital section, or use a large box filled with every piece of foam or carpeting you can find then seal the box paint a spot and have at it, or go to the nearesyt sports shop see if they have any leftovers from last year..... good luck

As long as you don't hit a rock, the arrow will be OK. I shoot my aluminum arrows all the time from my tree stand before I hunt. I just pick a leaf 20 yards away and shoot it with a blunt.
