Default Update on our hunting season

Well it has been a fun exciting second year bowhunting for my 13 year old son. He has taken 1 shot in the first week of october at a nice 10 point but had a clean miss. With school and other activites he has not had much time for hunting.

I decided I would pass on every deer that walked by my stands this year unless it was a monster buck. I wanted to give him the chance to get the first kill of the year ( make it special for him ). With gun season approaching in two weeks I decided that I would take atleast 1 doe for freezer meat.

At 0715 friday morning I had 7 does and 1 small fork buck all within shooting range. Sooooo, 13 yards from stand I draw place my pin on my mark and release. Whack!!!! doe leaps forward, runs about 30 yards and piles up.

I waited about an hour, went home to get my son to help drag and tag the doe. Now for the cool part, as we finish gutting the deer and are talking my son says "Dad theres a deer coming". I look up and walking right past my stand was a dandy 8 pointer. He mills around my stand, walks within 15 yards of me and my son and slowly walks off.

Anyways, we are having a blast this year and hopefully nick (my son) will get a few more days in the woods before gun season.

P.S My son asked why the deer only went such a short distance. Whilegutting herand investigating the arrow hit we found that the doewas hit in both lungs and through the top of the heart. My son commented " ok pops I guess you can shoot good in the woods like on the range". Below is my son with a quick snapshot of the small doe.

Look just to the left of my sons head and tell me what that is? LoL, blew up the picture and it sure looks like a deer. Wonder how long that 8 point was standing there?

So SouthernMaryland.... if you still have a copy of the picture untouched and not resized, crop out that thing back there and post it for us. It sure looks like it could be a deer, but he has no legs.[8D]
