active night in stand
#1
Well I get in my stand around 3 this afternoon and had a deer coming behind me before I could get my stand situated (already in tree). Im not sure if it saw me or what but it took off. 30 minutes later I hear something running and its a buck running on the opposite side of me. I tried to stop him with the can but nothing. He was hot on a hoes trail. Looked like a small 8.
I then rattled at 4 just to experiment and a doe comes in at 430, not sure if the two were related or not but I figured it was. I had been using a drag rag (old sock stretched over my boot) and hung it in a tree about 4' high. The doe gets to it and looks up and spooks. She goes about 5 yrds realizing how foolish she must be and continued on her journey. The rest of the night I swore I heard deer running around in the hollow below me.
Heres a few questions.
How could I have gotten that buck to stop and investigate my area? Maybe some will and the others wont. Not too sure.
I also wonder if the doe got spooked by the white sock in hanging in the tree or if it was the tinks 69 on it.

there's no stopping them when they are trailing a doe! i had a nice 8 pt (135 class) dog a doe yesterday morning in front of me. i didn't want to shoot him but i thought i would try to get him closer but nothing worked, i grunted, bleated, and rattled, but he never stopped once. about a half hour later a 145 10 pt was trailing where the 8 pt had went. i got him to stop briefly with some real hard rattling but he then went on his way

If a buck is on a piticular doe you won't get him off. At least that has been my experiences. I think you are better off being silent and hope the doe comes by you. I have hit my rattle bag slightly on a running buck and he did run over to see if someone wanted their but kicked. That was the only one I have pulled off a doe though. Good luck
