I'll let you know after Thanksgiving break. Guys on here have been having lots of success with the things. I'm gonna buy a dripper this weekend and try it out on Thanksgiving break in a few weeks. Of course it'll be on Nov 23-27th which is typically "post-rut" in Arkansas, so if it works then I'd say that they work, pre-rut and post-rut most affectively. I figure during the rut most bucks could care less and have their minds elsewhere (if you know what I mean.)

My experience has been that Mock Scrapes work best in the PRE-RUT.

Find a well used trail preferably where it crosses a logging road or 4-wheeler trail.

Look for a tree that has some branches at about 4-5 feet high.

Scrape away all of the leaves and debris on the ground in a circle about the size of a trash can lid or bigger. Make sure the soil is good and dark. Scrapes on sandy, or clay surfaces don't work well. Look for soil that looks like it came from a potted plant.

Add a scent with buck smells, like ACTIVE SCRAPE or another type of buck urine. Pour it on the ground in the newly formed scrape.

I also add some buck tarsal gland to the licking branch above the scrape.

Sit back and watch the bucks (and does) come and visit.

It sounds kind of crazy, but I like to scoop some deer droppings into a ziploc bag and spray them with scent (buck or doe depending on stage of the rut), and put them in a mock scrape. To me it just adds to the realism of the scrape itself, and puts some natural deer scent in there along with the bottled stuff.
