HBNR Doe Pictures
#1
I invited a novice bowhunter 9/30 onto my farm for an afternoon hunt; set him upnear a woodland crabapple orchardwhere I had a doe "tied to a tree". He shot at adoe, saying he hit her high on her left side. We tracked her 250+ yds, looked more afterthe blood trail ran out, and finally gave up- no recovery ("HBNR").
Four days later, the (young) doe trippeda motion camerain a nearby wildlife cornfield plot(first pic). I got another photo of the doe 15 Oct, and she appears to be healing well... rare to get the feedback. My friend was surprised his shot was so high - I suggested maybe she jumped the string.

I hate to say this but I did this same thing last year. I thought the deer (in the field) was farther out. I went high above the spine. I got the doe on a trail cam about 2 weeks later and you could see right where I hit her. I am sure she did just fine. I now have yardage markers in the field for this. In the woods I always seem to do just fine. I hope your friend gets another chance.

- wis_bow_huntr: it sure is not hardto aim too high; I've been surprisedwith spine'ing a few deer I was expecting to hit amidships... chalk it up to a learning experience for my friend.
-nomore picsof her, but I justmoved the cameras back to the cornfieldtwo days ago, I had them monitoringsome scrapes.
-The muzzleloaders on the adjoining propertieshave just finished their seasons, but they do not put much pressure on the herd. We'regetting together this Thursday to try again.
