My opening day disaster, $*&^%&$&())$#&
While the Va opener was Saterday. My day started off by walking out the back door, across my nieghbors front yard( which I do every moring I hunt) Well this morning they are up, the wife is yelling at the dog to stop barking. I yell out to let her know it's me, well she doesn't here me, but when she see's me she says OH GOD! and runs into the house. I have to run back to the house to let her know it was me. I felt pretty bad about it, but after it was over she laughed. So I head out to my stand, it's about 75 degrees and humid. I come in around 9, take a nap, shoot my bow, and head out with my climber at 3:00. I go to a hot spot I found earlier, acorns, RUBS, and tracks everywhere. By 4 I am settled in. nothing but heat until 6:50. Then I here a deer behind me, right where I wanted them to come from. I slowly turn my head and see a deer, and a NICE buck to boot. I wait until he goes behind a tree, I stand, and draw. When he walks out I prepare to shoot, but can't becuase my bow limb will hit the support bar of the stand! I wait until he takes a few more steps. I stop he with a mouth grunt, take careful aim, and release. Every goes down hill from here. The bow felt strange at the shot, it was louder and had more recoil. I see my arrow sticking out of the deer, along with 8 to 10 inches of shaft plus my fletching. I watch he runs out of sight. The fletching "looked" to be in the right place, but it's hard to tell, it was getting dark quick, and he was running fast! I climb down, no blood? I go home come back at 9:00, look until 10:30, nothing! Get up before daylight and start looking as soon as I can see. I looked from 7 to noon, never found the first drop of blood. I did a grid search of the area, looked along the creek, in ever thicket and briar patch I could find, still nothing!$^$^%^%^@^&#$#&^#!!! At first I thought the lack of penetration came from my limb hitting the tree stand, but I really didn't see how as I was careful to avoid it. Later I found the problem. My arrow rest broke at the shot! The arrow flight was so poor that the penetration was dismal, along with any hopes of accuracy. I was not a happy camper, I had just shot the bow that afternoon, making sure nothing like this would happen. I have no idea what happend to the deer, I don't give up, but I have nothing to go on, heck I even took the dogs out with me to look! I had MRS 5 shot and the boy out looking as well. we are all scratched up, full of burrs, and tired, and you all know how I feel. I just had to vent a bit, and wanted to remind everyone to check your equipment. The good news is I have a brand new bodoodle pro-lite on my bow, and it's shooting better than ever, and I do have some excellent prospects for next weekend.

Sorry to hear that 5Shot. I sure hope you find the deer. That is really something that your rest would break on a shot at a deer. Isn't that just typical? Think of how many practice shots you take compared to the 1 or 2 you take at deer during a season, and the dang thing broke on a shot at a deer?? Man, those are bad odds. Wait a minute, I'm not helping am I?
Seriously, I'm sorry to hear that. Let us know if you find the deer. Also, I know how you feel about worrying if you limbs will hit the stand. I've got a nice climber made specifically for bow hunters and because of the high arm rests I can only shoot straight forward.(and I shoot a 32 inch axle to axle bow!)

Sounds like that cotton picking Murphy has been hanging around you!! I feel your pain my friend. As the old song says "if it weren't for bad luck I,d have no luck at all, gloom, despair, and agony on me!!"
The good news is it can only get better, right!?
By the way I was curious, didn't you have a Muzzy Zero effect on? I was thinking the way I have mine wrapped I wouldn't be able to see a crack if it developed. Shoot, now I have Murphy whispering in my ear....
