Default So you wanna decoy'em huh?

Last night I went to one of my local farms, I have permission on. Now I don't get to this one, that often, so I wanted to play around. I haven't rattled or used any scents (not sense) or anything yet this year. So I set up my doe decoy in a redently cut corn field. I am in a perfect natural funnel that heads out to the field. I start rattling every 15-20 miniutes or so with some grunts thrown in to make it sound realistic. I'm hunting from the ground at this location, so I scrape and kick dirt and bushes to make it sound like a real struggle. After my third rattle session here comes a deer right down the funnel as expected. At ten yards as he pauses in my shooting lane I see his rack. It's a 6 point probably a 2.5 year old. His rack is cool because it has no curl just goes straight out. Decent buck but again, not one I'm ready to take, this early. He amples on past melooking for the bucks. He gets out to the field and sees that feeding doe decoy. It scared the crap out of him, he didn't buy it at all. He ran back inside the woods now a mere 5 yards from me staring at this decoy! He tried to work through the woods around it. But was uneasy and hightailed it out of there. He never saw, smelled or even assumed I was there.
I didn't like that reaction at all. Wish I'd have had the buck decoy out. it might have been different.

Don't sound like you need any decoy at all. Just rattel them into your funnel and bingo. Love it when a plan comes together.
