I settled into my stand yesterday afternoon at around 4:15pm and was hoping for the nice 8pt. that I've seen the past few weeks. Well, at around 6:10 he showed up aprox. 100yds from me and bedded down at the crest of a hill in a mowed field. I could just see a silhouette of him on the horizon from the neck up facing me...what a sight! I grunted once to catch his attention and used my mini-can/ bleat 2x every 10min. He looked in my direction but didn't budge. @ 6:40pm, out of nowhere a 4pt stepped out of the thicket 10yds from my stand and faced me head-on (I'm convinced that he was atracted by the mini-can/ bleat). Not comfortable with the angle, I drew and waited a good 60-70 seconds hoping that he'd turn broadside. He did! and started taking 2 steps back towards the thicket, so I literally blew him a loud kiss to catch his attention and stop him in his tracks-- when he paused perfectly broadside at 10yds, I let 'er fly!!!! $%&*#$% CLEAR MISS after deflecting off of the one twig between me and him! He stood there and watched me as I pulled another arrow from my quiver , knocked it, and drew on him.....not wanting to make the same mistake 2x and shaking in disbelief that he was still standing there staring at me, I waited for him to present himself better". 30secs. later he slowly looked away from me and took one leap and disappeared back into the thicket. I stood there shocked for about 5min.- I think he had just "thumbed his nose at me?!?" Well.....at least my new can bleat works<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> (and I still have my tag, if not my dicipline, for the 8pt.)
